Our Heritage Stories.
In our family, after a savory thanksgiving feast when everyone is full, we sit in front of the fire and I tell a story about our heritage. I have Scottish ancestry and I told a story about how a distant relative, a the Maine woodsman, married an Indian princess.
This year I have a new story to add to our heritage collection. This fall we installed a wood stove in our recently built “cabin room” addition. My husband had just made the hearth/fire proof floor out on the back deck and covered it up in black plastic for the night.
Later that evening as I was going out to watch my favorite evening star the wind picked up and suddenly this black thing rose up in front of me! It was howling and came at me flapping and hissing! There I was trying to fight it and of course I started to scream! My husband, who was inside, responded and asked why I was screaming. “This time it is a banshee” I shrieked! “Come make it stop!” He came out and got the the black phantom off me. It was still screaming or maybe that was me? So he held me tightly and passionately kissed me on the lips. “There”, he said, “it stopped”!
Nice story. I once had a loose black plastic bag in the back of my SUV that I didn’t know about. I opened the window slightly going down the interstate and that thing went nuts, sounded scary and looked scary as heck in the rear view mirror for quite a stretch.
