Monday Schadenfreude: Chesa Boudin gets religion on shoplifting

There's nothing like a smarmy, smug, leftist who's realized he's cooked his own goose.

Which brings us to the case of Chesa Boudin, the district attorney of San Francisco who's effectively legalized shoplifting in the name of "criminal justice reform." He's prompted massive store closures with ugly videos of broad daylight robberies on large and small stores. Boudin's refusal to prosecute has turned San Francisco into another socialist crime-pit, Caracas. And now, like his mentor Hugo Chavez, he's facing a voter recall.

Which seems to be concentrating his mind given that he's suddenly changing his tune -- and comically enough, fooling no one.

Here's his tweet condemning the brazen open-air robbery on the Louis Vuitton boutique on tony Union Square:

This was no case of looting in any conventional sense, it was an act of crime perpetrated by a large organization with central control. Typically these flourish in cities with corrupt governments, not merely inefficient ones - Chicago in the 20's, New York in the 70's, we've seen this all before. That corruption means that somebody is making big money and "sharing" it with somebody in government for protection. Ideology may have gotten them into it, yes, but ultimately it's all about the Benjamins.

That money is generated by a sales organization. This is no "Let them touch those things for once" as that idiot Celine Dion bleated, it's the sort of profit-making black market that also flourishes in corrupt cities and especially those governed by socialists. It's where the money is because payoffs are cheaper than paying taxes. Boudin's "stand by for felony charges" is pure crap - what he means is that a couple of little fishes are going to be thrown to the wolves and the thing dropped.

Recall info per Wikipedia:This will be the second recall effort. The first one failed to get enough votes and Boudin commented, "I am not surprised that the same people who opposed my election, and the reforms that came with it, are now trying to undo the will of the voters here through a Republican-led recall effort."

Guy sounds like a real scumbag.

Victor Davis Hanson frequently talks about the REALLY tough guys that are called on to solve problems... People love the results, but are eventually repulsed by their tough, often brutal methods and, after they have accomplished their mission, unceremoniously dump them.

The Brits did it to Winston Churchill after he literally saved Western Civ.
