This video is two and a half hours long, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.
A beautiful Classical Guitar takes 100 hours to make, but, in reality, takes over seven years just to make the wood seasoned enough to make a stable soundboard.

As my son went from the starter-Strat to the Strat to the Gibson to the “I need a better guitar...” I told him, dammit, make your own damned guitar.
I gave him a $2k budget, which he found insufficient, so he went out and earned another $2k playing with the axe I already bought him and built a damned fine guitar, which 10 years later he still uses professionally.
I don’t think he grew and cut his own trees, but he figured it out from the wood on up. Very proud of him.

I came onto some 210 year old hand hewn chestnut beams from a barn built from a revolutionary war land grant. I had Ron Kirn build me one of his signatures with custom pickups. Old dry wood, luv that guitar more than my guns. It’s the wood and luthier’s ability.

btw, that was in ‘08, the year before the Obambi attack on Les Paul. That year, when the 16 yo boy told me he wanted to play guitar for a living, I drove him up the Mississippi from N.O. to Memphis, finding every front or back hole venue to see great guitar playing. I told him to watch and learn.
Was sometimes difficult w/ a minor, but we bought, bribed, snuck and faked our way into bars all the way up. Memphis was the hardest to get him into. Had to watch the public stages and through windows for the real stuff.
He learned so much and went into the business eyes wide open.
Had about a dozen guitars, fav was a big mexican 12 string sounded amazing 2nd is a Martin that has a wonderful sound and smells great.
I watched the whole thing last night, and enjoyed it so much that I felt the need to share it with our FReeper guitar List!

That’s how the GREATS learned the Blues.
My first band, back in the 70’s was a Blues band. One venue on Nantasket Beach looked just like a barroom on the outside, but as I was playing, this innocent Boston Girl noticed some strange activity on the dance floor.
It was a BROTHEL! OMG!
I guess that makes me an authentic Blues Woman, playing in Juke Joints and Bawdy Houses. I’ve even played Tent Revivals.
And that’s not even in the South! LOL!

Probably the funniest thing that happened to my son was when a Korean “Executive” showed up to ask him to sign up with the biggest studio there. I asked him how the interview went, and he replied, “Well, Dad, the Vice President wears fishnet stockings and high heels. I’m gonna pass.”
The boy learned! LOL

I prefer to assemble a custom guitar from existing parts. It’s quicker and will be of higher quality.
That sounds like fun! I love to haunt yard sales and thrift stores to find “basket-cases” and reassenble them. I once found an old teley for $35.00 and rebuilt it. :-)
