Kyle Rittenhouse's friend Dominic Black did not make a "straw man" purchase of the rifle because Kyle Rittenhouse did not take ownership of the weapon. The intent may have been there but the crime never occurred. Until Kyle would take possession of the weapon, it's just a gift for Dominic. Now that the Gun Owners Association (GOA) gave Kyle a new AR-15, Kyle doesn't need to take possession of the one kept in Dominic's father's safe.

The AR-15 that Kyle Rittenhouse used to defend himself would go for top dollar at auction, especially if done by a lottery. How many would buy tickets for $100 for a chance to own a rifle that's such a part of history. Even virtue-whiners would by ticket for a chance to destroy it. How much would a colonial rifle from the "shot heard around the world" go for if it could be matched by serial number as this rifle can be? Kyle shifted the course of the Democrat Riots of 2020 with this one.

The problem is that Kyle testified in court that Black purchased the gun for him. At the very least you have conspiracy, since you had both parties in agreement to break the law, and concrete steps taken in furtherance of the conspiracy (Kyle giving Black the money and Black purchasing the weapon.)
