You can find this fun quotation puzzle, to combat early dementia and senility in us baby boomers, in several daily publications. I challenge us with the best ones out there.

The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).

Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated, you’ll be solving them all within a few days. If you’re stumped, take a break and return to it.

PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and how you made out.

You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for today’s Cryptogram ASK THE GROUP FOR HELP!

I suggest printing these out and work them on paper. If you need a little help you can copy and paste it to Hal’s Helper below.

You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper, but I recommend that you do NOT look at the letter counter.

HAL'S CRYPTOGRAM HELPER

One last request. Feel free to post a fun or clever clue, the more tangential to the quotation the better, but please don’t put the actual words of the quote in the clue.

A quote relevant to the news of the day.

If you need a clue ask the group to send you a letter to your private reply.

4 minutes good
3 minutes excellent
2 minutes exceptional
90 seconds superior

The longer cryptograms are easier.

Yes, the longer ones are the easiest. Had no idea what your clue with the bust of somebody meant, just had to start with the 3 letter words, guessed correctly, and all the rest began filling in.

Here is a clue….. think about what Kyle Riddenhouse was doing

My clue has bust of Voltaire cast in the role of a bust of today’s author. Best the property department could come up with, I guess.

Voltaire is not the author…… but like the author he is from the 1700’s so I guess that counts :)

When I read the definition of topical just now, I see how that is a great clue.

Nice and timely.

Start with the most common letter and most common word, and the rest will open up from there.

had no idea what your clue with the bust of somebody meant.

That was a still of the character Della Street (Barbara Hale) from the TV show Perry Mason.

No, but a bust of Voltaire was used to fill in for Perry Mason's hat rack in the old TV series. In the books, the bust in Perry's office depicted today's author. If Hamilton Berger was a inept as Thomas Binger the series wouldn't have lasted a single season.

” That was a still of the character Della Street (Barbara Hale) from the TV show Perry Mason.”

Okay, now I see the connection. Good one.

When I read the definition of topical just now, I see how that is a great clue.

I do the weekend quotes, Nikos does Monday-Friday. I work Mon-Fri, and compose my contributions the weekend before they are "published". Something came up this week, and I had to fill in one day for Nikos, so I posted the puzzle I had intended for today last week. I was composing this post yesterday, and the cited quote seemed "topical".

Hope you enjoy our little club.

Yes I do enjoy this little club and I look forward to it every morning. It is such a wonderful brain exercise for us Seniors. I’ve even been going back to some of your previous posts this week to work them out as practice.
