Thoughts on Vermont (U.S. Senate) race?
FR ^ | Nov 16 | RandFan

Surely there must be a liberty loving, constitutional conservative in that state for the GOP to be competitive?

Sort of like a Rand Paul .

Interesting fact is that Pat Leahy was the only Dem to be elected to U.S. Senate from there.

So will the seat go to the Dem or someone claiming their independent/socialist and whoever Bernie endorses?

Does Bernie have that much clout?

Guess we'll find out.

I like to think some kind of appealing Republican can emerge...

Our hope is that a liberal Republican gets elected and then keeps his mouth shut ... not a murkowski

There are several.

Conservatives get trounced in vt

Literally, EVERY open Senate seat is in play next year due to the way The Junta is running the country, although I doubt that Republicans will be able to figure that out.

We dont want to be stuck with a RINO.

Need someone appealing enough who is a staunch conservative but can hide it,.

Like LePage in Maine. He wins there despite being a huge Trump supporter.

He just doesn’t mention it much and has other attributes in the eyes of voters.

That’s the playbook.

“Our hope is that a liberal Republican gets elected”

Don’t you DARE say that, not on this site. Democrats are FAR BETTER than liberal Republicans (who vote with us at least 70% of the time, by the way).

Why? Because when we elect Democrats, the voters finally get to see just how PATHETIC Democrats really are, and the voters immediately REJECT those Democrats.

And to prove our success, look at Senator Leahy - elected in 1974 and now REJECTED by the voters in such a way that he is afraid to run again.

Think about it - he didn’t even make 50 years in the Senate, thereby PROVING our ‘Elect Democrats, not RINOs’ strategy is WORKING!!!

Our only hope for a quasi ally is for some libertarian to run in VT.

That’s what I was getting at..

But the GOP will support some RINO who has name recognition there I’m guessing.

There must be some libertarian/constitutional conservative who can run.

Should be interesting.

Give me a real democrat any day of the week. Less knives in the back.

I think so too and agree.

Vermont should be fertile territory for a constitutional conservative.

Although I thought this about “live free or die” NH and they keep electing Dems.

It’s strange ...

Vermont used to be a rock-ribbed Republican state with constitutional conservatives such as Winston Prouty representing it in the Senate. Then you had a lot of ex-hippies and self-styled elites from Boston and New York move in; it didn’t take much to tilt the political balance since the State has such a small population.

The only place I passed through in 2020 and saw Biden signs everywhere was northern Vermont, up near Fort Blunder.

Thanks laconic for the background info

It’s an interesting phenomenon and a frustrating one.

Bernie Sanders political career started when he was elected mayor of Burlington, in northern Vermont, as a Socialist. Thus began Bernie’s road to fame and riches.

Just need the right candidate.

I’m convinced of it...

But the GOP will go with some designated Loser probably.

Remember McConnell is still very much in charge and holds sway.

The cities in VT and NH will blow out the rural areas. When you realize that VT’s population peaked in the very first census you can understand how rural that place is.

The libs from NY, NJ, and CT that now transplanted to VT drive the Dem votes. The students around Burlington support Bernie.

Not going to happen. The woke trustafarian imports run this place. Peter Welch will probably get the nod and some full on moonbat will replace him in the house. Politics in this state are a lost cause. Burlington makes our choices for us.

It wasn’t that way in 1945...

Vermont was taken over by The Left and has two horrid Senators. BIG GUBMIT types rule Vermont as exemplified by Ben and Jerry. Vermont used to have 2 Republican Senators, now have the Communist Bernie Sanders and “Leaky” Leahy who is retiring. Rest assured, the radical greenies will vote in another green Commie like Bernie. Liberty is gone from VT replaced by EuroGreen Communism.
