I don’t smoke. I think it’s disgusting. However, this is a terrible idea. As another poster pointed out, it will create the same circumstances as Prohibition in the US. The way to stop people smoking is generational. Go for the kids and write off the adults. My friends who smoke get poked at by their children all the time and their kids do not smoke.
On the other hand, this and the Covid craziness are a great opportunity for a conservative government to take control and stop the madness. From what I’ve read, though, I’m not sure there are any of what we’d call conservatives in either Australia or New Zealand. Just hearing them talk about the nuclear sub deal is nauseating. “We’ll have nuclear submarines, but don’t worry, we’ll NEVER have nuclear weapons.” If I was in any other country I’d be clamoring for nukes because every four or eight years America goes crazy with a Carter, a Clinton, an Obama or, Godhelpusall, A Biden.
