A blast from the past.
Ah yes those were the times, of gas lines, inflation, and somewhat good music.
Everything old is new again, except the music.

There are musical purists who say Blondie jumped the shark with this song. That they sold out and went commercial. I dont care either way, just noting it as music history.

I love watching her. Not just because she’s pretty, but her facial expressions really match the lyrics. She was and is a great performer.

That they sold out and went commercial.
I knew someone who managed a nightclub in NYC in that era, and I asked him if all the punkers and New Wavers believed their own Schtick. He said, "None of them, except the Talking Heads." He also predicted that Deborah Harry would be dead from substance abuse before she hit 35, so he was wrong about that.
This pretense that the punkers and hard rockers of the era were driven primarily by a higher sense of "Art" is silly. You may as well say Virgil went commercial because the Aeneid was a commissioned work.

This is Debbie Harry on Coney Island. About two years before she became a household word with "Heart of Glass".

That album had some catchy songs - “One Way Or Another”, “Pretty Baby”. Produced by Robert Fripp, too.

Hard to get a good tan in NYC.

I went to youtube and watched her sing. Enjoyed it til the end when youtube turned the “pain in the ass” into “had a heart of glass” and ruined my memory.
Also never noticed before that they didn’t pay too much attention to teeth whitening back then.
To: DallasBiff
Fun trivia: The line “Soon found out, had a heart of glass” was originally “Soon found out, was a pain in the ass.”
The song might have had the title “Pain In The Ass” if they hadn’t replaced that hook line.

That lyric does survive in the final verse - but yes, good trivia there. Making the title “Heart Of Glass” catapulted Debbie Harry and Blondie into superstardom.

I’m not saying it was aliens.. But in 79 we enjoyed a wonderful time together after the concert in Lubbock. No .. There was no hanky paky. Just a few hours of honest talk. Real stuff.

Thanks Laz. I wondered how many posts until that came up. One album version in-fact used those lyrics but I don’t recall where.
