Why the heck do you still have Netflix? Call your credit/debit card company and tell them not accept anymore charges from Netflix and be done with them.

My wife took a tab into a hospital episode (she was going to be there 7 days and intended to binge-watch). At conclusion...she came home, and I found my account non-functional (password would not work). Took several attempts to call and get help. IT at the hospital (providing Wi-Fi at a cost) had stolen the password, and then changed it. Lodged a complaint but I doubt that they did anything.

“Boy was she pissed when she found out the reason she couldn’t get it any more. I still get a kick out of that. “

Ouch.
How are family gatherings?

Kanopy is free as well. It was built initially for schools and libraries and is especially strong on older and foreign films, but there's a wide mix. I live in DC and the DC public library has a subscription, so I have access via my library card number. I'd recommend that people check to see if they have free access.

I am almost always searching for a specific film, as opposed to going to a streaming service and searching randomly for something to watch. That's a dogs and cats difference in how people are accessing movies.

Many newer tv's have Roku built in. I have a perfectly good, slightly older tv that doesn't, but my college age daughter went to Best Buy and got a little gizmo that plugs in and pulls up the Roku display. All I know is that I'm not paying for it. The search function does a pretty good job showing which streamer currently has what, and for what price.

The "where to watch" app on Letterboxd is also useful; it picks up some stuff that Roku misses. It's also free. It was actually Letterboxd that led me to Kanopy when I was searching for Balloon, (2018, Michael Herbig, dir.), a German film about a family's escape from East Germany via balloon. The film isn't well known in the U.S., but I found it when reading a reviewer's "best of" list. It's a solid Cold War film that many here would enjoy.

Some movies are available for free on YouTube. Anything on YouTube is supposed to be in the public domain. In the case of a couple of films, I think that rule may get skirted from time to time, but the films I'm thinking of may be sufficiently overlooked that no one is really checking. I know of two that are free on YouTube but available for a fairly cheap rental on the streamers. Somebody is overlooking something.

My account was hijacked a few months ago, along with my ISP, email and a couple of credit cards...... Took a while to clean up

My daughter picked up the Roku thing at Best Buy, so she paid for it. I have no idea how much it was. As far as I know, there’s no monthly fee; if there is, my daughter may be paying for that as well.

Yeah; it’s a good deal. We paid $30 for the Roku doo-dah, and there’s nothing more after that, monthly or otherwise. I’m into watching re-runs of Without A Trace and Cold Case on Roku — and a bunch of older series. It was well worth the $30.

to people complaining about netflix, if we have to cut out everything influenced by the left, we will loose 1/2 of the entertaintemtn. there is an alternative..... you can watch it for free by some other means. use the internet, the best pirates are from russia and china.

besides ilberals are still up in arms about dave chapelle’s special. so clearly some of them do not like netflix either.

You need to explain to your wide the importance of using a (paid) VPN... then the hospital staff wouldn’t have been able to swipe the info. ;)

Roku channel is great. They have Leave It To Beaver and Alfred Hitchcock Presents and lot of really good shows and movies. You just have to put up with really lame commercials.

Bears repeating. Even smart people can get old and careless.
