Here in Detroit the Fall Weather has been Cool, and beautiful.
Spent a couple of days clearing out the Corn Stalks, Tomato, Bean, Gord / Cucumber Vines and Pepper Plants as they have been done for a couple of weeks. ( I burn them, and rake the ashes into the soil along with some 20 year old water log wood that breaks up easy). Then roto-till. Ready for next year! Will process a couple of jars of Horseradish while watching The Lions Game Sunday. Ill at least have an excuse for crying during the game. :)

Taters! German Butterball. Mom & I got these dug last Saturday. Some of the nicest taters we've ever grown. I had two that were 8" long, and a LOT of 6" ones. Once that new plot is worked up a few more times, and a little more mule manure added, it's going to be Potato Heaven in a section of The Big Garden. Yay!

I am dealing with all of the small ones that we dug weeks ago and are sprouting a little bit. I am going to make a big batch of 'Garlic Mashers' which means I boil them with the skins on, then mash them with GOBS Of garlic, butter and cream, then package them in meal-size servings and freeze. Heaven on a plate!

Next year may be different; potatoes LOVED our dry season, but I am going to try German Butterball and Red Norland again. Both are proving to be great varieties for us here in Zone 4/5.
