Chicago Angler Accidentally Catches Enormous Record-Breaking Carp

“I wash fishing for bass,” the Chicago angler admits. But what he first thought was a huge catfish turned out to be a record-breaking carp.

“I was fishing for bass,” Knize admits. “It started running and it was running clearly faster than a big turtle. So I thought it might be a 50-pound catfish.”

The resulting catch – one of many invasive carp – is nothing short of flabbergasting.

Cory Gecht took the mammoth fish to his larger – but still uncertified scale – where the carp weighed in at an astounding 74 pounds. As for it’s sheer size, the bighead came in at 52 inches long with a girth of 34 1⁄2 inches.

Tom Palmisano, proprietor of Henry’s Sports and Bait would open his shop after hours so Knize could weigh the carp on their biggest certified scale. He did so, an the bighead came in at 72 pounds, 8 ounces.

#2: "That thing is ugly as sin."

There is a seriously strong resemblance with Rep. Rashida Tlaib, the Catfish Congresscritter.

Here on the Great Lakes we call them ‘sewer inspectors.” They are bottom feeders and not too particular about what they eat.

Growing up in Michigan, we used to fish for suckers in the springtime when they made their run up the creeks flowing into the Tittabawassee River to spawn. In addition to the suckers, we would also catch carp.

The suckers, when skinned and filleted, went into the smoker. The carp were buried in the garden as fertilizer for the raspberries. My dad, granddad and all of my uncles swore that that was the only thing that carp was good for.

—” He said every way he cooked it it just tasted like dirt!”

I spent summers on the Mississippi River and there was a fish smokehouse every couple of miles.

Carp, drum, buffalo... cheap and delicious!
Yes, greasy!

They kept live fish in huge tanks, supposedly to wash some of the dirt out?

The last time I was out that way, most of the smokehouses were gone.

Every fish we smoke here in Alaska is oily. I’m guessing that’s key for carp as well.

—”We would give them to the Hmong “

A friend and supervisor was an avid fisherman and occasionally I would go with him to the Fox River after work.

Doughballs for carp and some days he would catch a lot of them, always someone would be more than happy to take them.
Blacks and Europeans loved them.

We, taxpayers, have spent millions and millions on the “electric fence” for fish...“We may be incompetent, but at least we are slow.”

Biden gave an interview to WKRC in Cincinnati this week.

I wonder if he thought he was talking to Venus Flytrap and Dr. Johnny Fever and wanted to sniff Loni Anderson's hair..
