As Hollywood considers new safety measures following the fatal shooting during filming of Western movie “Rust,” actor Alec Baldwin said on Monday he believed film and TV productions should hire police officers to monitor weapons on sets.
Baldwin accidentally shot and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on Oct. 21 after being told the gun he was rehearsing with on the “Rust” set in New Mexico was “cold,” or safe to use, according to the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office.

“Every film/TV set that uses guns, fake or otherwise, should have a police officer on set, hired by the production, to specifically monitor weapons safety,” Baldwin posted on Twitter.

Didn’t he have a gun safety professional, who he fired?
Actually, I agree with that.
Hollywood movies, studios, productions and actors are the entities where I would allow the complete prohibition on the possession of firearms.
No others except by Due Process.
Cops got nothing better to do, sarc!
That’s why you have an armorer, idiot. You cut corners to hire a cheap newbie and an innocent lady paid the price because you know nothing about how to handle a gun and your armorer was incompetent. Her family should get all your money. You can always make more.
Stop me before I kill again!
Oh....NOW you need the police.
Just don’t have any dogs on the set or they are bound to be shot by the cops.
The golden rule of handling firearms is that the person handling the firearm is entirely responsible for its safe handling - and should assume at all times that it is loaded, and handle it accordingly.
I am amazed how many people I talk to want to defend Alec Baldwin’s recklessness by arguing that someone else besides him was responsible - a “weapons master” or the police.
It’s like they believe a movie set has its own jurisdiction.
I posed the following question to some acquaintances:
If the same thing happened in my home - my wife had handed me a loaded gun - whose fault would it be if I assumed was not loaded and accidentally killed somebody? Would I be innocent if I had given my wife a fancy title, like “weapons master”?
Believe it or not, the consensus opinion was that a movie set is a special case, because actors are not gun experts and yet the the gun needs to be real or else the scene would not be “realistic”.
In the home, they said, you shouldn’t have a gun unless you are an expert.
So I guess they believe making the scene look real for their entertainment is more important than gun safety.
Dumber than a box of rocks, and infinitely less self-aware.
He wanted to blame the police, but can’t.
Police are some of the worst gun safety individuals. If you want true gun safety on your set, hire a lifelong hunter. Most of us knew gun safety before we knew much else.
If any of these assholes had any training, they would know how to operate a piece of steel and wood. It ain’t that complicated. Any moron can chamber check a firearm in less than two seconds. Why does Hollywood need some bimbo to do this?
Dumber than a box of rocks, and infinitely less self-aware.
Better yet, with all the expertise in video manipulation and editing, how about creating fake replicas of guns with fake firing, fake smoke, fake sound?
What makes him think cops know anything about firearm safety?
Some humorous video out there of some cop shooting himself doing a show and tell.
Being allowed to carry a weapon does not make one an expert on safety.
Alec Baldwin calls for police on film to set him on fire.
kinda like Brandon begging OPEC to open the spigot...
When my kids were in elementary school, they knew more about REAL “gun safety” than Baldwin, or most police. Neither of my kids EVER violated all 4 rules of gun safety like the idiots on that film, including Baldwin.
