A friend of mine in Alaska was an avid sea kayaker but had trouble with sea lions (bear in a wetsuit) harassing him and literally getting in his face while paddling.
He painted the bottom of his kayak to look like the belly of a killer whale, which scared off the sea lions but tended to attract the orcas. He ended up buying a cabin cruiser.
