The Broyles of Tennessee were visiting Yellowstone National Park where they got an unexpected welcome on the park’s entrance road.
A herd of bison, estimated to number around 150, sauntered down the highway stopping traffic and engulfing the Broyles’ SUV, all captured on video.

wow, that’s a good one.
“Also was surrounded by a passing elephant herd when I was in the Serengeti years ago.”
That must have been something!
We were in the middle of a similar herd in Yellowstone’s beautiful Lamar Valley (the best place for wildlife viewing) just before dawn on a July day ten years ago. It was amazing seeing all the animals cross the road right by our car, go down the embankment and swim across the small river to the plain across the way. The calves were struggling to cross the river. Just breathtaking. We saw grizzlies, wolves, eagles and bison that day.
The driver kept repeating “Holy Cow” seeing a Buffalo that looked like a tank headed his way.
It wasn’t a Holy Cow. It was just a Buffalo.

It was a herd of female and young elephants with no adult males nearby. Bull elephants tend to be nuts. As long as the van did not move we were okay.
We did run into the herd later while they were foraging and they let us know to stay away.
Went to Yellowstone 2 years ago.
Stoopids got 0ut their vehicles.
Some to take selfies of them selves and deer.
Some to take selfies with 20000+ bison.
Some to take selfies of themselves and wild Boar, cows,or God knows what.
I hope for they get what they deserve, a good ride out of town
Was it like an Astroworld Festival?
Yawn. Much the same as cattle surrounding the pickup at feeding time.
Weird question, but why is the road still clean?
........................................................
Because bison are more hygienic than San Franciscans.
I don’t recall where it was (Wyoming I’m thinking) and I was driving at night on some deserted 2-lane road.
All of a sudden this herd of buffalo is running towards me from the left to cross the road. I slam on the brakes and stop just moments before the herd crosses the road.
I thought for sure they were going to run into me and total my pickup, but they just went around me (front and back) and kept running. I recall being more awestruck than afraid.
I live in a rural part of Virginia and we always say, nature was here first. You just have to live with the realities that come with living in the wild animal’s front yard.
The tourists or the buffalo?
;-P
We saw the same thing in 2013 Yellowstone. Still love to see them in the wild.
They were close enough we could pet them out the car window, but did not do it.
Our neighbor here where we live has bison so it was not over awing.
There’s a reason bison farms have 8’ fencing
= = =
To a Bison, that is just a suggestion.
