I’d be quite sure that he wasn’t being literal here. You accept Christ as your savior, in other words, he’s your friend, then your slate is wiped clean of sin. Hence you weren’t a sinner, you aren’t a sinner, and you won’t be a sinner.

We sin and continue to sin. It is the blood of Christ that cleans that stain of sin....
