Three years after California voters approved a ballot initiative to take the first steps toward staying on daylight saving time the entire year, the state is preparing to “fall back” to standard time this weekend like nearly all of the U.S.
And as the debate over the seasonal time change continues, a state lawmaker says all options are still on the table in the California Legislature — even a possible move to year-round standard time.
Inaction by Congress, however, means California and other states looking to end the time change currently aren’t allowed to stay on daylight saving time throughout the year.
That’s due to the Uniform Time Act of 1966, which stipulates states can’t unilaterally act on DST without federal approval.
However, the law permits states to remain on daylight saving time year round, which is why Hawaii and most of Arizona don’t participate in the twice yearly clock changes.

I especially dislike having to drive in the early morning, right after I get up, when it’s dark. When it gets dark in the evening, I’m more alert.
Old days vcr did not change time automatically.
I don't consider myself an expert, but it depends on your likes and needs. The big cities and towns here are just like anywhere else: liberal, crime infested, and shabby. Touristy areas like Flagstaff and Sedona are nice but too lefty.
I live in a suburb on the far east edge of the greater Phoenix area, but that's mainly for family reasons. If you like suburbs, Gilbert is nice and, if you have money, Scottsdale and the north Valley are nice too.
If I had my druthers, I'd probably live up in Prescott Valley or something like that. It is somewhat rural, but has decent shopping amenities. Lots of fishing and hunting opportunities there.
If you like the mountain small town life where you have four seasons, you could always consider small towns like Payson, Show Low, etc. I like Payson a lot (in the summer), but it might be too small town for me. Other Arizonans are free to weigh in here.
Thanks! I have a sister down in Tucson, and wondered what you would view as good places, since you live in AZ and have a different viewpoint and experience than her.
Nothing is better than long evenings in the summer before it gets dark. The whining psychos have to ruin everything.
It was the only decent thing President Wilson did.
My laser disc player won’t change automatically, nor my 30 year old wrist watch.
Tucson is a nice place to visit. There are lots of interesting things to do and see around that area. Being a university town like Tempe and Flagstaff, however, it is hopelessly leftist in it's politics.
Why, if you travel, this occurs frequently. No big deal.
I despise it…..I don’t care whether it’s standard or DST but just keep it the same all year.
.
Brother and I have said for years: move the clocks 30 minutes one last time and just leave it.
“...move the clocks 30 minutes one last time and just leave it.”
Never happen. Doesn’t require politicians to take sides in the future.
In retirement, I stay with my Circadian Rhythm, and don't check the clocks.
Lol
Didn’t we already vote for that several years ago? Didn’t it pass?
Let’s move the calendar ahead one week in the spring, move it back in the fall.
I dislike the east part of my trip to work because I drive into the sun and about the time sunrise changes enough to where I am not looking right at the sun ball, then we switch the clocks so I get to do it 4 times a year.
