Babel is a 2006 psychological drama directed by Alejandro González Iñárritu and written by Guillermo Arriaga. It was an international co-production among companies based in the United States, Mexico and France. The film portrays multiple stories taking place in Morocco, Japan, Mexico, and the United States, starring an ensemble cast. Rinko Kikuchi portrays a teenage girl named Chieko, who is profoundly deaf and non-verbal.

I hope that if the character in the film has the ability to reverse her deafness that she chooses not to and remain a part of her wonderful loving community that only hates on those evil people who try to "cure" their gift.
My deaf friend got cochlear implants. We taxpayers spent a lot of money on them. He hates them and regrets getting them. He doesn’t even turn them on.
I dislike that movie immensely (trying to limit my use of the word “hate”). The stupidity of the characters is astounding. How did any of those morons even dress themselves?
If this one short is representative of the entire movie then it is a triumph of style over substance. Interesting camera work trying to make up for a simplistic plot.
