Raiders quarterback Derek Carr says Henry Ruggs III "needs to be loved" after fiery Vegas vehicle crash that killed woman

Derek Carr said Henry Ruggs III needs to be loved right now and needs to know he has people in his corner.

"And if no one else will do it, I'll do it," the Las Vegas quarterback said Wednesday.

Raiders interim coach Rich Bisaccia said it's important to keep the focus on the fact 23-year-old Tina O. Tintor was killed Tuesday morning in a fiery crash caused by Ruggs, the 22-year-old receiver who was cut by the team Tuesday night.

"We want to express our sincere condolences to the victim's family," Bisaccia said from a prepared statement. "We're deeply saddened for everyone affected. Especially the victim's family."

Prosecutors said Ruggs was driving at 156 mph with a blood-alcohol content twice Nevada's legal limit before his Chevrolet Corvette slammed into the rear of Tintor's vehicle that burned, killing her.

"We love Henry Ruggs, and want him to know that," Bisaccia added. "It's a terrible lapse in judgment, of the most horrific kind. It's something that he will have to live with the rest of his life. The gravity of the situation is not lost on anyone here and we understand and respect the loss of life."

"My emotions have been on a roller coaster so to speak this year," Carr said. "My heart goes out so much. I'll try to say it with a straight face because I've already been emotional about every bit of this. But to the family, to all the families involved, no one ever wants to see this, whether it's a football player or not, you never want to see something like this happen. It broke my wife and I's heart, honestly."

The crash came three weeks after Jon Gruden resigned as coach over emails he sent before being hired by the team in 2018.

A terrible lapse in judgment? We know of this one instance where he drove at excessive speed. With alcohol in his system. With a passenger. Who apparently didn’t tell him to slow down.

What are the odds this is the first time he’s done any of these things?

I don’t think I’ve ever driven over 85 in my life. The odds that I drive 156 mph are less than zero. Ruggs has probably driven fast lots of times.

The woman died burning in her car. Screaming. I think I’ll with holes withhold the love until I hear some contrition.

Regards,

Wow, I had no idea you were the ONE who could read minds and hearts. Ruggs was a good kid, and I stress kid, who made a horrendous mistake. Jail might not be a bad thing for him, but how about showing a little mercy to a kid who came from nothing and now has to return there?

Just because he was a talented player and made a bunch of money doesn’t make him a monster. It makes him a kid who made, literally, the worst decision of his life. He knows tragedy from his childhood. Because of a dumb, terrible mistake on his part, he gets to know it again. He gets to carry the guilt of that woman’s death as well as the punishment of jail time. Why vilify him?

Carr is right. He needs love; not judgment or hatred. He screwed up about as bad as human can. When you screw up, do you want love and compassion or are you content with hatred and judgment being piled on you by people you don’t know?

Then again, we all need love. Every day we screw up (not this bad, maybe) but we need people to love who we are while not loving what we did. Maybe give it a try.

Carr misspelled "prosecuted".

He’s got enough dough, he’ll have the best.

Before it’s over, the black/hispanic jury will buy in on “untended acceleration”, Ruggs will walk, and GM will pay a big settlement.

We have a constitutional right to bear arms, you do not have a right to drive.

There is not excuse for this horrible event. Sadly, this is the dilemma of kids who have been expected to excel in athletics all of their lives. Many times, their talent is their only worth to family and friends. A twenty-two year old black kid from Montgomery Alabama makes the big time, gets a sixteen million dollar contract and buys a custom corvette along with a lot of celebration booze. I am betting it is the first car he has ever owned and didn’t have much driving experience or life experience in the first place. It is a recipe for disaster and the NFL sets the stage for enslaving these kids to recruiters and lots of money, then they throw them to the wind.

What about the victims and their family? No love for them, Derek?

Liberals NEVER give a damn about the victims... they 'care' so much about the criminals and monsters... Who knows, maybe they identify with evil.

Yours is the most insightful post on this entire thread.

Poor black kid from the 'hood makes it big in pro sports and is immediately handed millions of dollars with virtually no life experience or even coaching to properly handle it.

Truly a recipe for disaster.

These guys actually do get life coaching from the NFL. At least that was what my buddy’s kid said. He was a marginal special teams guy who was on the roster of seven different NFL teams.

But a lot of them disregard it. They have free Uber anytime they want it too, no questions asked.

You can tell this clown was raised to virtue signal. He could have simply. been a friend to the guy without saying a word.

Sure, we can love him. But he’s got some major issues he has to deal with (and pay for.)

Regardless, it’s the same argument to restrict a magazine size or an engines HP.

It’s not about the right to drive, it’s the right to drive the car I want.
