Derek Carr said Henry Ruggs III needs to be loved right now and needs to know he has people in his corner.
"And if no one else will do it, I'll do it," the Las Vegas quarterback said Wednesday.
Raiders interim coach Rich Bisaccia said it's important to keep the focus on the fact 23-year-old Tina O. Tintor was killed Tuesday morning in a fiery crash caused by Ruggs, the 22-year-old receiver who was cut by the team Tuesday night.
"We want to express our sincere condolences to the victim's family," Bisaccia said from a prepared statement. "We're deeply saddened for everyone affected. Especially the victim's family."
Prosecutors said Ruggs was driving at 156 mph with a blood-alcohol content twice Nevada's legal limit before his Chevrolet Corvette slammed into the rear of Tintor's vehicle that burned, killing her.
"We love Henry Ruggs, and want him to know that," Bisaccia added. "It's a terrible lapse in judgment, of the most horrific kind. It's something that he will have to live with the rest of his life. The gravity of the situation is not lost on anyone here and we understand and respect the loss of life."
"My emotions have been on a roller coaster so to speak this year," Carr said. "My heart goes out so much. I'll try to say it with a straight face because I've already been emotional about every bit of this. But to the family, to all the families involved, no one ever wants to see this, whether it's a football player or not, you never want to see something like this happen. It broke my wife and I's heart, honestly."
The crash came three weeks after Jon Gruden resigned as coach over emails he sent before being hired by the team in 2018.

He needs to be released from jail as quickly as possible, so the poor girl’s family can whack him.
Outright predictable coldblooded murder as much as if I leveled a 30-06 and started shooting around in downtown.
.
Riggs is a selfish Criminal.
He took the lives of two, an innocent woman and innocent dog.
Carr thinks his value is in showing his love for a favored NFL demographic.
.
I hate the Raiders. Always have. Always will.
Carr is trash.
He needs 50 years to life, not a nice little hug.
I despise panderers like Carr.......that’s why we haven’t watched sports since Crappneck took a knee. People don’t want to love someone who got into a car loaded with booze flying like a bat outta hell and killed a young woman and her pooch.....give it some time will ya? Throw the worthless POS in prison!!!
Oh, The Alec Baldwin strategy.
Make sure it knows to call an Uber when it has been out drinking.
Like Prager says, with an attitude this callous and stupid, you KNOW that Derek attended college.
You must be nostalgic for the 80s when the government mandated that speedometers could only go up to 85 mph, regardless of what the car could do. It removed the incentive to go faster and instantly solved the speeding problem.
It could work again! /s
That’s the same argument the left uses on magazine/clip size or the style of gun.
The woman died burning in her car. Screaming. I think I’ll with holes the love until I hear some contrition.
My brother tells me this is an AP hit piece, we are in Vegas. Apparently Derrick Carr was expressing compassion as a Christian, not trying to let his team mate off. The Left Media has an incentive to denigrate any one who is at all conservative.
Where is the Cancel Culture when it is really needed?
I want to vomit.
“It’s a terrible lapse in judgment, of the most horrific kind.”
No, you maroon. It was a crime. A criminal act. Likely a felony. Believe it or not, lapse in judgment is not listed as a mitigating factor when deciding whether charges for vehicular homicide shall be filed.
well as a Christian I didn’t find the headline offensive, but I did watch the press conference in full too. so sad all around, Carr articulates himself very well.
Should have been an actor. He could be in Vermont complaining about how much he’s been hurt by her dying.
I couldn’t get over his screechy girlfriend screaming at people because they weren’t helping him as the poor girl and her dog were being burned alive.
It’s going to take a lot to teach those two entitled morons.
Remember, the Raiders are coming fresh off the John Gruden email saga. I’m sure the team mood is under the microscope.
By all accounts, Ruggs was never a thug. He was even on the good side while at Alabama. His best friend was killed in a car crash in high school.
That said, what he’s gotten himself into just sucks. I really believe younger people today have a distorted view of risk and responsibility.
The only thing I would agree to see would be, when purchasing any car like that, the buyer take a driving course. You have guys who haven’t ever been in cars like that and then all of a sudden they get one and don’t understand what the car is capable of.
The man who found my first 911, took me out in an empty parking lot the when it was delivered, in the rain, and then showed me how easy it was to spin it / lose the rear end.
Yes I saw the touching documentary about that from a year ago! It also features Ruggs' mother as well as that of the friend's. SO SAD, the devastating irony of it all...
150 miles per hour, DWI, and taking someone’s life. Hey Carr , suppose it was your loved one? The pampered should spend some serous time in jail, unfortunately, he’ll probably get a slap on the wrist.
