Mr. Mercat dropped his wallet with about $100 in 20s when he went tubing. A group of church kids found it and went around town looking for the owner (small town) and eventually found Mr. Mercat. He gave them enough for pizza. Good kids.

Well, I just found out that there was a theft in our church parking lot during a multi-church singing event. A 2-way emergency fire department radio and aa bag full of quarters. There could very well have been additional thefts. Desperate people do desperate things.

...The owner showed up and she went through her wallet and said everything was there (IDs credit cards kid’s pictures) except for the cash She went on to accuse my mother of stealing the money out of the wallet! She walked away giving mom the stink-eye. No good deed goes unpunished, lol.

Happened to me too. One of my employees (a 20-something)found a wallet on the ground in San Francisco. She gave it to me. It had no cash but ID (including a military ID) and a credit card. This was pre-Internet. I spent time calling people with the same last name (fortunately, not a really common last name) in local phone books. I located his brother. He acted like I had stolen the money. My husband has found several wallets over the last 20 years on his morning walk. We took them to the police department and let them deal with it.

It’s the last thing you expect to happen when you make that kind of effort to return such a personal item.

I suspect most people would be happy to get their wallets back...we ran into some ungrateful/paranoid people.

Not according to the Bible. Man's nature is fallen.

Yep.

“The heart is deceitful and wicked above all things”. (Jeremiah 17:9) “There is none righteous, not even one”. (Romans 3:10)

That’s not the Bible I’ve read. That’s the interpretation of the Born Again nuts.

You're still breathing, so it's not too late for you.

“Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.”(John 3:3)

God makes the rules.

It has been found through research about one-third will NEVER steal. One-third will steal if given the opportunity. Another one-third will make a real effort to steal and feel no remorse.

That lines up nicely with one-third Conservative, one-third Squishy Middle, one-third Democrat.

My son found a wallet in the snow when he was about 10. Together we returned it. My kids went to public schools.

About 26 years ago, I was at Boston’s Logan Airport. My daughter was returning from a High School trip in Europe. I was quite distraught at the time. My younger brother had recently been diagnosed with a terminal Cancer. He only lived 6 more weeks, 7 from the diagnosis.

I intended to take her to the Boston Hospital from the airport to see her Uncle. Instead I found myself obliged to drive 2 of the Teachers or Guardians home. It was very awkward for me. I could not tell her about the problem until much later.

So life goes on.

A couple of weeks, not even, I received a big envelope in the mail.

Someone had found my checkbook at the airport. I did not even know that I had lost it. I was stunned. I wanted so much to write the person who sent it to me, but my life was in such complete disarray, that I could not focus on even the most important things. In short order the obligation left me. I simply forgot.

Some while later, after reflection, I recalled my obligation to thank that person, but I was unable to find the name or address. I felt awful about it, I still do.

There are good people out there and I have been fortunate to have been on the receiving side of their genuine positive nature.

Doing good deeds is not always acknowledged here on this plane, but it is always proper and Right to do good.

I, too, lost a wallet (many years ago, in the Pittsburgh area) and had it returned intact by the elderly couple that found it. They wouldn’t take any reward. I’m guessing that the chances are slimmer these dark rat infested days.
