That must have been a long, long time ago. Long before Psycho was released. Who wants to walk into the middle of a movie? Who wants to start reading a book from the middle?
Anyway, Hitchcock didn’t decree that start times of Psycho would be announced. He decreed that you can’t enter the theater after Psycho started.

You are correct all along.
But I simply don’t believe that most moviegoers didn’t prefer to see a movie from the beginning unless it was something like a girlie show with no plot. But you know, a good stripper can give their act a plot.
