Whenever a child gets a polio vaccine the parents are told not to be around people with a compromised immune system, or pregnant or nursing mothers.

Yep. After the vax, they shed virus, and it can cause problems for other people. My polio shot was a SHOT in the arm, after standing in line for a long time.
They gave every one a dilly bar after the shot. Lots of melting ice cream cause no one really felt like eating it.
The next year, they did the same, but everyone that got the shot was sick within an hour and had to upchuck - bathrooms were very busy. That was the year as we now know that the SV40 contamination started.
