there is also a comparison between the 150 grain used in 30 vs 100 grain in the 243 if you want to fast forward to 10:38

Because my 30-06 Gamemaster kicks like a mule. I’m not shooting bull moose or grizzly bears. My 30-30 is just fine for deer of every size and type.

The 30-30 is one of the few round-nosed cartridges powerful enough to hunt North American game. Lever-action rifles need round nose (or special ammo like Hornady LEVERevolution) to minimize the risk of tube magazine ammo setting off the primer of the round in front of it.
The lever-action rifle is still around, because they work, because of cowboy-action shooting, and because they're kinder to lefties than bolt-action rifles.

If one ever happens to run into a Remington model 788 in .30-30, from 1971 or whenever, buy it or steal it. (j/k) :)
It's a collector's item.

Why Is the 30-30 Still With Us?I turned my Marlin 336 into a cowboy assault rifle, and it shoots .30-.30.

I work in the biz here in Hollywood and saw TWO in pristine condition, and one in the possession of a certain movie actor. They wont sell it. (dammit)

And there’s no evidence to back that claim up, in fact most evidence when looked at points the other way. The 30-40 Craig came soon after the 30-30 and not long after that came the 30-06 in an 03 Springfield action and a 1895 action. The 30-06 most likely holds the killed more deer title, then again there’s no way to prove that either.

Nostalgic and supplies 375 Winchester brass of a somewhat lesser quality.
And what does the 30 30 represent?

The next item I’m adding to my arsenal is an over/under 20 gauge shotgun. I used to use my BIL’s when we shot skeet and I LOVED IT! Hardly any kick, but of course, we were just using buckshot/scattershot. ;)
But man, that gun was sweet!

The state of Utah uses 30-30 for criminal executions. Four state troopers aim at a sticky note where the heart is,...was.

The Lever Action 30-30 Winchester is just a damded fine all-around gun. The down-and-back lever action is a lot easier to accomplish when you are moving and bouncing around than a bolt action. If you find yourself in dire straights you can speed shoot the damn thing from the hip. It is very reliable and can hold 6 rounds in the tube plus one in the chamber if the occasion requires it.
Are there better rifles than the Winchester? Yes but in my opinion not for the price, value, and versatility.
