A man who was dressed as Batman villain the Joker has been arrested by police for attempted murder after injuring 17 people in a knife rampage onboard a Tokyo commuter train.
Witnesses described how the 24-year-old attacker stabbed 10 people and poured what is believed to have been oil around the carriage before lighting it on fire, causing panic among passengers.
It was also reported hydrochloric acid was thrown during the attack, which occurred on the Keio express line bound for Shinjuku, the world's busiest rail station.

Irony, and a recent post I said I would rather live in Tokyo as a Foriegner than a US city and then this happens, still wouldn’t change my mind.
Did he make a pencil disappear?
If he did that here he’d serve hard time for smoking on the train.
“Everything burns..”
This particular Joker is Professional Level Crazy.
All his evil deeds took lots of money, time to plan out, purchase tools and equipment, a place to store the equipment. He had to study the train schedules, how to purchase certain acids in large quantities w/o attracting suspicion.
What a shame that during all stages of this horror, at no time did he stop and think: “This is crazy. I can’t kill these innocent people. What did they do to me?”
This does not appear to be a matter of ‘Mania’, a sudden quick flash of irrational behavior. Manic/Depression is sometimes treatable.
Nothing was spontaneous about it. Lock Him Up, Japan!!
Last time I recall a story like this out of Japan, some guy tried to release poison gas in their subway system. This was easily 20 years ago.
As a people, the Japanese appear to be happier, at least on the surface. And I think there is some comfort in living in a stable and homogenous culture.

That was a cult that pulled that. Japan hung the leader a few years back IIRC.
L
I felt that way too when I lived there. On the other hand, crazy in Japan is C-R-A-Z-Y.
One of my best friend and university frat brother lives and teaches in Japan for the past decade, and is to the go-to guy when State and/or the Embassy requires some exact translations. It’s not for everyone.
As an example, there is no such thing as “as I need my lawyer present” during police interrogation. Americans bitch about the cops here in the USA but over there, they screw you so bad which explains the over 95% “guilty” charge.
Yep. They punish you hard in Japan. It’s a great deterrent. This perps life is over.
There’s a thousand boring US violent city stories around somewhere.
I would take Tokyo over any American city.
Low number of Dindu’s.
Oh I know, I spent a year and change total on the Mainland and Okinawa, I always respected Japan’s laws too, didnt want spend 20+ days in jail which is what they do to you if you are only just arrested.
One time Japanese Prefecture police came to my apartment, and my butt was worried some gaijin messed up and i was identified as that gaijin, but they just asked some question in broken english, they bowed, i bowed and that was it, phew.
You know, John Wick once killed three men with a pencil?
“What Do You Get When You Cross a Mentally Ill Loner with a Society Who Abandons Him ..?”
I never saw those movies
Essentially 3 perpetual fight scenes.
I enjoyed them.
I thought most of the passengers would pull out all of their guns and execute him. I mean, he was smoking a cigarette!
Asian still smoke I believe
