Actor Alec Baldwin spoke publicly for the first time Saturday about the death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, who was killed by a bullet fired from a prop gun fired by Baldwin on the set of the movie "Rust."
Tracked down by paparazzi on the side of a road in Vermont alongside his wife Hilaria, Baldwin said he couldn't comment on the investigation into the death, which occurred on Oct. 21 south of Santa Fe, New Mexico.
"I've been ordered by the sheriff's department in Santa Fe (not to comment on the case).... It's an active investigation in terms of a woman died, she was my friend," Baldwin said. "...We were a very, very well-oiled crew shooting a film together, and then this horrible event happened."
Baldwin, appearing annoyed at times when his wife interrupted to chastise reporters, confirmed that he had met with Hutchins' husband Matthew and the couple's 9-year-old son, adding that the husband was "overwhelmed with grief."
"There are incidental accidents on film sets from time to time, but nothing like this," he continued "This is a one in a trillion episode. It's a one in a trillion event.... We're eagerly awaiting for the sheriff's department to tell us what their investigation has yielded."
Asked if he would ever work on a film set again that involved the use of real firearms, Baldwin said he wouldn't know how to answer that question, but added that he is "extremely interested" in "limiting" the use of firearms on movie sets.
Baldwin added that he doubted production would start up again on "Rust."

Prop is short for ‘property’ or ‘studio poperty’
A prop might not be real, but many are.
I working light on a set is a ‘prop’
The tables and chairs in the saloon are also props.
Some of them may be engineered to collapse but they are still all props
AB is totally not concerned with Trillions.
So, Alec, it’s an “episode”.
Nothing like trivializing the manslaughter you committed.
Akin to "One death is a tragedy, a million deaths is a statistic".
Hilaria, including accent:
Don’t cry for me, Amereeeca...
just a spot of bad luck, eh?
I think Baldwin is right. It takes a one-in-a-trillion superlative idiot to make that many safety errors that quickly.
It’s not one in a trillion when you act like an idiot and violate every fundamental rule of safe gun handling.
.
Are the odds greater if you dying from Global Climate Change -
Or being shot by Alec Baldwin or one of body guards?
.————-
Are your odds greater than Alec Baldwin’s of getting charged if you are found holding the gun while someone dies nearby from a bullet it fired?

Keep digging mofo.
So a prop gun merely means it’s the studio’s property on a studio set? So, since it’s the studio’s property, the prop gun is not supposed to be able to fire a “real” bullet. In light of an actual shootings who cares who owns the gun. This is silly.
I’m surprised at the lack of conspiracy theories. Maybe Halyna Hutchins was about to “Me Too” Baldwin, and he decided to prevent that. He says she was a friend. Maybe they were more than friends, and she was going to go public with it. Baldwin is a nasty creep, so who knows.
Nope. The entire reason there is such a thing as an armorer and such a stringent set of rules is that it’s extremely likely such things will happen if you’re stupid or careless enough. Baldwin is acting like he’s a poor innocent who got struck by lightning out of the clear blue sky. Who pointed the gun and pulled the trigger, Alec?
A-Lex, the insurance company will see it more like a 1:1 possibility with an un-hinged angry loud mouth liberal on set. You will be asked to kindly pay out of pocket on this one.
A real gun can be the property of a studio.
prop only describes who the object belongs to, nothing more
why would you think everything owned by a studio is fake ?
I refuse to call this shooting an accident. Every action taken lead to a foregone conclusion that there was a great probability of injury or death. Stopping at any of these actions would have prevented the outcome.
A gun was aimed without being safety checked.
It was aimed towards a person.
While aimed at a person the trigger was pulled.
All of this required deliberate thought and action. How is that an accident? Alec Baldwin can not claim he has no idea that bullets are very likely to cause severe injury or death
to a person. I doubt he intended to harm anybody. But that does not matter. What matters is nothing was done to mitigate a very well known risk.
You are 100% correct.
It’s a gun that points and fires itself absolving any human of any responsibility for any injuries.
She’s dead, Alec.
No you jerk. If you had followed the rules of gun safety it would never have happened
