A Kentucky pooch plunged 170 feet into a gorge but survived unscathed in an incident authorities are dubbing a “doggone miracle.”

“Adrenaline was running through my body, and the only thing I could think about was, ‘Holy crap, he’s alive,'” owner Tyler Stinson told station WLEX 18 of the incredible saga, which occurred Sunday in Daniel Boone National Forest.

The Shelbyville resident was exploring the Red River Gorge with his “hiking buddy” Tyson, a pitbull boxer mix, that Stinson said he “takes everywhere.”

I used to have a boxer mix.

I hope the gorge wasn't too horribly damaged.

This guy is a real anal orifice. Just look at that smug look on his ignorant face. Can’t be bothered to train his dog to heel or come, so he just lets him run loose in areas full of hazards. He doesn’t deserve to own any sort of pet. Just give him a mirror to admire himself in. Here, he nearly lost his dog in a terrible accident. The dog could have lain in that inaccessible area for hours, suffering from broken bones and internal injuries. It’s G-d’s mercy he was able to get out unscathed. But this moron goes and lets him run around off leash again right away!

[What happened to the lizard?]

He rode on the dog's back all the way down, waving his stetson and yelling "YEE HAW"?

I don’t know how many dogs I’ve come across where I actually thought “ Don’t ever let that gamboling moron anywhere near a cliff.”

I searched for Indian Staircase on search engine. It is reportedly a 45 degree or 60 degree slope. It has footholds carved into the rock to help one climb it. Many humans have died falling down it. Report says dog fell down in indian staircase area. Based on the article it would seem the dog fell off a 90 degree cliff. But still a potentially deadly event. If owner had dog on lease it is remotely possible dog could have dragged owner far enough so owner went off the steep decline to his own death. Lucky pooch...lucky owner.

Definitely not a straight down 170 foot fall. No way to survive that if it was. These stories always leave out the fine details.

Dawg might be part cat.

We have a cat who I swear is part dog for these reasons:

  1. She will drink out of the toilet if we forget to close the lid, even though there is fresh water waiting for her in the adjacent kitchen.
  2. She is ultra social. Every person who we invite in the house has to get sniffed and checked out. She doesn't leave them alone until they give her a pet on the head.
  3. She will even fetch things for me . . . when she feels like it.

It’s all in the landing. Perhaps the dog landed on a steep slope which would allow him to roll to reduce the energy of impact. Lucky dog.
