A student at the University of California, San Diego was attending a party on the eighth floor of a residence hall when he fell to his death Friday night, officials said. Aaron Fan, 18, was at the party when campus police came to investigate the gathering at the university’s Tioga Hall.

Fan went into the bathroom, and witnesses saw him fall out of the window “a short while later,” at 11:44 p.m., according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Fan was transported by paramedics to a nearby hospital, where he was diagnosed with multiple injuries, the medical examiner’s report said. Fan was pronounced dead by a hospital physician at 3:31 a.m., despite “life-saving efforts,” the medical examiner’s report said.

I lived at home and commuted to attend Revelle. Too expensive to live on campus vs $46 annual parking pass and gas at 30 cents per gallon. There were a few “dropouts” from the dorms every quarter. Thr watermelon drop off Urey Hall was always fun. Streaking was popular too. Jan 1974 to Jun 1976 (graduation).

When I was in college we were having a big party on the outside balcony of the mens' dorns, and a very intoxicated upper-classman accidentally threw himself off a sixth floor balcony right above a concrete patio.

Fortunately I grabbed his arm and, after dangling a few seconds, hoisted him back over the railing. In those few seconds he sobered right up.

I may have let him dangle a few seconds extra, just for effect...

Did you then set him right down and begin your "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe" monologue?

Regards,

I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate.
