A deadly shooting on the set of the Alec Baldwin film “Rust” in Santa Fe County, New Mexico, has resulted in a debate among legal minds about the possibility and likelihood of litigation — even as many of the facts of the matter remain shrouded as of the time of this writing.
It remains officially unclear how a prop gun — generally outfitted with blanks — was discharged by Baldwin on a movie set. The gunshot managed to kill cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, 42, and injure director Joel Souza, 48. The accident happened at the Bonanza Creek Ranch, a stereotypical western film set used frequently by production crews on the southern outskirts of Santa Fe.

However, the New York Post, citing Indie Wire, said that a union which represented prop masters learned that a “live round” was fired. The union said its members were not on set and that local “New Mexico crew members” were, according to the reports.

You bet....wait till it leads back to Baldwin’s private collection. This is a western...you have to be a western fan...so even tho he’s anti gun...an old cowboy collection is still a possibility.
Stop calling it a prop gun...it’s a gun...they haven’t let out the brand yet...I’m betting a Colt.
Isn’t the person in possession of a firearm responsible for the safety of that firearm?
Hannity is going to have to bite his tongue clear through today.
Excellent and CRITICAL point.
There is NEVER an excuse for pointing any gun, real or prop, at anyone who is not ACTING the part of the target as scripted.
Lee Marvin would have checked his weapon.
No, Live Round, Real Gun.
Since this was a western it is fair at assume the gun is a revolver. It takes only a couple of seconds to check a revolver, even a single action. I am also shocked because it would be really easily to take a regular revolver and modify the cylinder so it would not take a full cartridge.
She may have been in the background. What if they were directly behind the actor he was shooting to get a particular angle?
Wow failing to honor the sanctity of union labor...he's a true Democrat hypocrite.
Better Ban Alec Baldwin.
It may even have been a “point the gun directly at the camera” type shot and he’s a lousy shot.
He probably has no clue about gun safety.
Maybe one of Baldwin’s private collection and the dumb ass didn’t check it.
Exactly!
BAN ALL MOVIE GUNS NOW!
if it saves ONE life!! etc etc etc..
HILARIA BALDWIN: “How you say, loaded?”
The civil case is certain. Insurance will be tapped out and Baldwin will pay millions.
Criminally, different story. If this accident happened while performing, it could weigh on culpability. Word is he was clowning around between scenes though. That changes things a bit.
