Cinematographer Halyna Hutchins was killed in an incident involving a prop gun on the set of “Rust,” an Alec Baldwin film that was shooting in New Mexico on Thursday.
A second person was injured, and was receiving emergency care at a hospital in Santa Fe.
Hutchins’ death was confirmed by the International Cinematographers Guild, Local 600.
“We received the devastating news this evening, that one of our members, Halyna Hutchins, the Director of Photography on a production called ‘Rust’ in New Mexico died from injuries sustained on the set,” said John Lindley, the president of the guild, and Rebecca Rhine, the executive director, in a statement. “The details are unclear at this moment, but we are working to learn more, and we support a full investigation into this tragic event. This is a terrible loss, and we mourn the passing of a member of our Guild’s family.”
The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s office said it was investigating the incident, which was reported at 1:50 p.m. Mountain Time at the Bonanza Creek Ranch, a popular filming location south of Santa Fe.
“The Santa Fe County sheriff’s office confirms that two individuals were shot during filming of a scene on the set of the movie western ‘Rust’,” the office said in a statement. “According to investigators it appears that the scene being filmed involved the use of a prop firearm when it was discharged. Detectives are investigating how and what type of projectile was discharged.”

Who knows at this point, but I’m betting the cinematographer was behind the camera, with someone else behind them or in front. If it was indeed Baldwin, he points and shoots right at the camera.
Freegards
He was too important to learn that little tidbit during the course of his dungheap of a life, and now a young woman has paid for his arrogance and stupidity.
Let's go, Alec!!
While i dont believe baldwin tried to kill someone ...this will haunt him the rest of his life because he did kill someone
There’s supposed to be an Armorer or Weapons Master on set keeping track of the dangerous things.
It’s amazing to me how often props—especially prop guns—are the instruments of real death on a film set.
And this time in the hands of Alex Baldwin? That guy is famous for his short fuse. I shouldn’t be surprised if he were handling it unsafely.
Short fuse and a drug and alcohol problem. Hope there is a long and thorough investigation.
They used dummy rounds that have the actual bullet, no powder, but real primers.
So close ups make the revolver look like its really loaded.
The gun was fired with just the primer which pushed the bullet into the barrel. When the replaced the dummy rounds with blanks and fired it, the charge was enough to fire the bullet in the barrel which struck and killed him.
If this movie was a western, its likey the same situation. That would explain the death but how do you wound the second person?
That could be it.
Agree. I wouldn't wish this on anyone, not even him. The guilt must be sickening ...
I’m reading a piece on Daily Mail that said Alec Baldwin killed him!
We know if President Trump did this there would be charges of manslaughter and a long jail sentence.
One more thing, I wonder if there is any video of what happened?
One shot might be accidental manslaughter, but two makes it murder. Baldwin is famous for losing his temper and acting out. I hope he has 10 to 20 years to think about it.
Fired all six or at least several until he saw both were hit , most likely.
Having him aim directly at the lens was amateurish it breaks the fourth wall … but like William Hurt that is the only work he can get anymore - top pay on a low budget shoot. And who would even want to see fat alec in a western??
Anything on the barrel could be a projectile, dirt, for example.
As a result, a young, talented woman is dead.
Just another bug squashed by the Elite Boot of Alec Baldwin.
Alec Baldwin. Karma.
It’s 2020 Hollywood. Why are they even using real guns?
This dork of a libtard should be charged with negligent homicide, pay millions to the relatives of the dead and be banned from prop guns after he's out of jail.
