Perhaps

“It weighed four pounds, measured about four feet long and originated from the Third Crusade, experts said.”

Yes, it is beautiful.

It would be interesting to see the remains of Acre and the offshore fortress where the last held out. I’ve read history of that.

Tip:

You can stick it to them by doing the following, which may work better in different browsers (load time):

In quick succession, click your mouse on an open area of the screen as the page begins to load,

Perform Control-A

Perform Control-C

Paste (Control-V) into OneNote or similar application to read content.

This technique works with many paywalls, but not all.

Looks heavy, so I am wondering how the “woke” back in that time could carry such a thing...

“Could you imagine swinging that thing...even without the crustiness? I’d throw my shoulder out. Look great on the wall over the fireplace though.”

I have read Knights could sever a limb with one swing.

From the length of the handle I would think that it was not a two-handed weapon. Still at approx 4 pounds it would take a real man to continue to swing it effectively if a battle lasted more than a few hours.

A thought ... being ambidextrous would be useful ...

Guys probably made fun of the others because they didn’t have enough scars and such. Bad times, strong men.

“It’s only 4 pounds.”

Babe Ruth’s Louisville Slugger baseball bat only weighed 2.6 pounds.

But to put it into perspective historically... In those days English Long Bows for war had a draw weight of 140 to 190 pounds.

They had to be physically conditioned for years to command these weapons.

Thanks, I had never thought of that.

I know hot keys. But never thought about doing it in the html browser.

Yep... Many years of physical conditioning. See #31. :)

Look how the Smithsonian Magazine writer described the crusades:

Starting in the 11th century, leaders of European nations and the Roman Catholic Church sent Crusader armies to the Middle East to seize sites considered holy by Christians from Muslim rulers.

Poor little dears, those innocent Muslim rulers were just minding their own business when the wicked Christians showed up to conquer them… no need to mention how those Muslims came to be ruling the Holy Land, or how many Christians they slaughtered to conquer it…

Or just get “NoScript”. I was able to get around it and only had to toggle on three of the 25 or so hidden scripts to read it all and watch the video on their own page.

"...I have read Knights could sever a limb with one swing..."

Well, I know it for a fact-I saw it in a movie once! (After a moose bit my sister, of course)

You see, mooveova, if you hadn't said anything...:)
