I remember when comedians were unable to make jokes about Obama — he was just too awesome. There was nothing funny there. No possible jokes. The guy was just perfect 24/7, so they had no choice but to tell lies about Republicans instead.

The only late night comedy I ever watched was the original Saturday Night Live with Belushi, Aykroyd and the others. It started down hill after that era.

Johnny Carson was a class act that no late night host since has ever been able to come close to emulating.
After some 30 years of watching the Carson show, I still was never sure whether or not he was a Democrat or a Republican.
And that's the way it should be.

Jay Leno left all shows in 2014. A Trump Presidency was not in sight.

Simple: It stopped being funny.

The last late show worth watching was The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson (followed Letterman). He ran from January 2005 thru December 2014. He tried very hard to keep politics out of his monologue and interviews, but sometimes CBS threw political guests at him. Definitely pro-2A, based on some of the shows I had a chance to watch.
Funny thing was he was not a fan of Biden or Trump. 2016 would have been tough for him had he stuck around long enough.
