There’s a number of health promoting diets that are quite similar. Ones like the DASH diet or the Mediterranean diet. They include a lot of vegetables and fruit. Complex carbs. Lower fat proteins. Low salt. Low or no saturated fats. Low sugar. Check out diets recommended for cardiovascular health or diabetics and you’ll see the pattern.

I know a woman who is using it. It isn’t working. Maybe because the Intermittent Fasting/Cheesecake Diet is an unusual subset of IF....

Me? Down 30 lbs, then level for 4 years.

So how long do they recommend the fast to be and how many days a week etc. Also how is one supposed to work or clean house when they are weak from not eating?

Non-flavored black coffee and teas don’t break a fast. They don’t raise glucose or insulin. Some fasting experts say a little cream is OK, especially as you transition to a clean fast.

I fast 18 hours and eat during 6 hours each day. I never feel weak. It’s actually easier to clean house or workout while fasting than on a full stomach.

Lots of different options. Each person has to find their sweet spot. Some people fast 16 - 20 hours daily with one or two meals a day. Some people do alternate day fasting. Some do a down day of 500 calories followed by a regular day of eating at least 1500 calories.

Fast, Feast, Repeat by Gin Stephens has a good overview of the science and how to ideas.

Started a 16/8 IF program in April and have lost 25 lbs....I’m 70 and it’s the EASIEST WEIGHT LOSS IN MY LIFE. Finish eating by 8 p.m., don’t eat until noon the next day - effectively, I skip breakfast everyday. I’m a healthy eater anyway, but it is so nice not to worry about carbs, fats, calories, etc. etc. Last time I was this light I had followed the Zone diet (very prescribed proportions of fats/carbs/protein); it took over my life and I was hungry ALL the time. Would definitely recommend.

I wonder if intermittent fasting works for those who have an average BMI, but want to lose a few pesky pounds.

With intermittent fasting, do you have to skip some kind of breakfast? I can skip lunch, but... skipping even a light breakfast is tough for me.

You can have a breakfast and supper. Going without food for 8-12 hours is an option.

Depends on when you stop eating your last meal. Should at least be 12 hours from your last meal. So stop eating at 6pm and start back up after 6am.

Methods vary. My method is called the 18:6. You fast for 18 hours and eat during a 6 hour window.

In essence I usually eat 1 meal a day.
I was a wrestler in my youth, so not eating has never bothered me.

Some people do two days a week, not in a row, where they only eat 500 calories.

Try Dr. Berg on youtube. Some people don’t like him, but I found him pretty informative.

The best diet is to write down all the foods you like. Next stop eating them because if you like it, it’s obviously bad for you.

Cool I’ll check it out thanks. Lately my diet has been crap but most days I don’t eat all that much at all and I still can’t lose the eight pounds I’d like to.
