Right now there are four Mexican gents fixing my carport roof. I am amazed by the work ethic shown by these four men, they don’t chit chat, they don’t stand idle and smoke, they just work. My roof is going to get done today, weeks ahead of schedule by four men who barely speak any English. The jobs were there and they saw an opportunity and I hope they get paid well for their labors.
For the record I’m 60 with health issues and had to hire this job out, I’m not lazy, just grateful there are still hard working men in this country.

I have no issue with Latinos. Just like every other culture, there are good elements and bad elements. One can respect their hard work ethic while at the same time believe that we need to secure our borders. It is the left that has turned this into a race issue.

The ethics and legality issues aside, we all know there are hard working illegals, but we still need immigration law to be enforced, which it hasn’t been for decades. And it’s all fun and games until one of them falls off your roof.

He didn’t ask, they didn’t tell, but their lack of English is a big clue.
It’s no wonder we are losing our country.

Really, that was a bit asinine. The people adding to the problem are lazy ass citizens who are either too lazy or stupid to do manual labor. You can argue all you want but you would be wrong. Anecdotally, my auto mechanic and body shop owners both finally bit the bullet and hired Mexicans. Why? The mechanic has fired three American mechanics in the last year for shoddy work that cost him money and customers. The young Mexican mechanic works hard and has been well trained. Oh, by the way he is in the country legally. The Body Shop owner subcontracted engine and upholstery to two American shops. The engine shop took 8 months to rebuild my engine only to discover they never really rebuilt it. The engine was sent to a shop owned by a Mexican and will be done next month. The Mexican shop has a good reputation for the custom work they do. Not sure if they are all legal, but for the money they do better work. Same with upholstery. American shop did half ass work on one of my cars. I refused to let them touch my custom truck. The Body Shop owner, found a local shop owned by a Mexican, they repaired the $hit job on the car and are doing my truck seats. Oh, the owner is legal and he travels to Mexico annually to buy leather and other stuff cheaper. He passes those savings on to the shops that contract him. He personally trains his workers which are a mix of local kids of all races and nationality. He does have a Mexican crew, are they all legal, I do not know but they do great work. However, some people who make asinine comments refuse to use him because, well he must be illegal because he is Mexican. To be fair, I have two auto shops I use. One is all locals, older guys, good mechanics, but try in get your car in. There is a wait list because good mechanics are so hard to find. Face reality, the Puritan work ethic that built this country is lost on a majority of the last two generations. But, those pesky Mexicans still seem to have it.

I had an addition put on my house 15 years ago. I told the contractor “no illegals”. He was a good guy and agreed. One day one of the Hispanic workers didn’t show.
The job foreman, Jimmy, told me he was taking the day off for “Day without a Mexican Day”. Remember that? All Mexicans were to take off to show us how necessary they are. I told Jimmy to tell Joelle not to return. He said Joelle was needed to do the finishing work. I said, “he should’ve come to work then”. “Tell him to stay home. Watch Sabado Gigante”.
Mine was one of only 2 Additions they were doing and Joelle finished his part on the other so he was out of work for a couple of weeks.

why would you say that? You don’t know anything about the workers except they are not speaking English.

Good for you. I wish I could do more but my health limits what I can do. A more local guy did the larger part of my roof about 10 years ago and it leaked at the chimney, he never did fix it. I called the Honest Abe company and the repair was done right so I gave them another shot on the rest of the roof. Quality work goes a long way with me.

Four Mexicans were in an open truck that had run into the lake.
The two in the front seat escaped unharmed, but the two in the back bed drowned - they couldn't get the tailgate open!

My kid brother was a general contractor in South Carolina a decade or so ago. Did quality work and hired young men black and white for decent wages.
Was run out of business by cookie-cutter contractors who hired illegals. Brother had to lay off his crew which hurt about as bad as downsizing his own home and eventually moving out of a nice area.
Before leaving, he went back to school and got his PhD and is now teaching economics at a small Presbyterian College. Good for him, not so good for the young men who lost their first good paying job.
