Right now there are four Mexican gents fixing my carport roof. I am amazed by the work ethic shown by these four men, they don’t chit chat, they don’t stand idle and smoke, they just work. My roof is going to get done today, weeks ahead of schedule by four men who barely speak any English. The jobs were there and they saw an opportunity and I hope they get paid well for their labors.
For the record I’m 60 with health issues and had to hire this job out, I’m not lazy, just grateful there are still hard working men in this country.
The irony is that those same workers produce such low quality work in Mexico. No matter where you go there, things are just built to a much lower quality.
There are other, more efficient methods.

It occurs to me that one way to keep down the hiring of illegals would be if the insurance companies underwriting worker comp policies let it be known that no matter the status of individual employees if it is shown illegals are on the job site the worker comp policies on all the workers would be cancelled. That may be extreme and it certainly is up for debate.

The baggers were maybe 8 or 10 years old. They were always dressed very neatly and took their jobs very seriously. They were serious because they were working for the money that their families needed to get by.
I remember being surprised by seeing a 14 or 15 year-old as the clerk in a liquor store. Life is tough down there.
The house next door to me just sold to a Hispanic family of 5 they are making 8500.00 a month, they get 1000.00 a month per child, they get 1200.00 a month in food assistance, they get 2,000 a month in welfare, and they get 1,000.00 a month in housing assistance they both work too!! The home sold for 775,000.00 and they sailed through escrow NO PROBLEMS getting the loans MAKES ME SICK, oh and I forgot I met them and needed the neighbor to translate for me barely speak a word of English!!!

I do not know where you live, but here we do not need a neighborhood watch. We have neighbors and we watch out for each other. Our population is 75% active, retired or military veterans. The other 25% are locals with more than a few Good Ole Boys. Considering our back grounds we are mostly well armed and comfortable with our weapons. The employer is responsible for whom he hires not me. I will not pay someone to do what is the employers responsibility.
It is a foolish thing to assume because someone is Hispanic or nonwhite that they are here illegally. I do not assume that because of the men and women I served with during the war. Men from Africa, Mexico, Central America, Jamaica and Haiti. They earned their citizenship or green cards. Have you or do you just consider it a birth right? So, no I do not insult people by asking are you a citizen. Knew a young Jamaican Marine from New York. God he spoke horrible English, I could barely understand him. He admitted that he over stayed his visa and was nearly deported. A family member was able to sponsor him so he could join the military. He earned his green card along with a Purple Heart. Imagine asking him if he is an illegal. With his PTSD, it would not end well.
So what is your solution?

The Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986—signed into law by President Ronald Reagan on November 6, 1986—granted amnesty to about 3 million illegal immigrants in the United States.
