The police and sheriffs protect us. Or do they? Will they?

Ostensibly democratic governments around the world have reacted shamefully to the spread of COVID, with law enforcement personnel helping them abuse their power.

Ostensibly democratic governments around the world have reacted shamefully to the spread of COVID, with law enforcement personnel helping them abuse their power. What has happened in New Zealand and parts of Australia is truly frightening. Those two formerly free and democratic nations have seen the exercise of cruel totalitarianism in the past months. Despite the fact that lockdowns have not mitigated the spread of COVID anywhere in the world, despite the failure of mask mandates to affect the number of cases when compared to regions without mask mandates, some states in Australia and all of N.Z. have continued the most rigid restrictions, and their citizens are suffering the consequences.

Elderly women are tackled in the streets by police and attacked with pepper spray for being outside without a mask. Perfectly healthy people are prevented from leaving their homes and if surveilled will be likewise treated like dangerous criminals. New Yorkers have protested in solidarity with Australians. The police who were just a year and a half ago viewed as the protectors of law-abiding citizens in Australia and N.Z. are now feared and despised by many. Is this reversal of civilized fortune coming here? It is already here.

By now most people have probably seen the video of a man, Scott Smith, being wrestled to the floor at a school board meeting in Loudoun County, Va. His 9th-grade daughter had been raped in her school's restroom by a "gender fluid" male dressed in a skirt. She reported it, a rape kit was used, the abuser charged and released — to another high school, where he similarly molested another young girl.

All public employees, including police, district attorneys, judges, public defenders, and sheriffs will do what is required to protect their salaries and pensions.

“All public employees, including police, district attorneys, judges, public defenders, and sheriffs will do what is required to protect their salaries and pensions.”

Exactly. A corollary to your statement is:

There is nothing they wont do to protect that salary/pension and related benefits.

American police are not Australian police. Where in the United States have anti-lockdown protestors been treated the way they are being treated in Australia by law enforcement?

Uniformed law enforcement joined the rallies against gun control in Virginia a couple years ago. Sheriffs in Colorado and elsewhere have refused to enforce unconstitutional gun control in their counties. Hundreds, or cops have quit in places like Seattle. Thousands have quit or moved to different departments.

I constantly see people saying “cops will do anything to protect their pensions”, quite literally in the face of thousands of cops across America risking or losing their pensions.

The police will not protect us. Their command staff is totally political. The mayors say jump, and the chiefs ask how high.

But I do hold out sone hope for the county sheriffs. Those guys are independent, and answer only to the people. As an example, the big-city mayors in my neck of the woods all whine about gun permits. They don’t like ‘em.

Our sheriff ignores all that and issues the permits as fast as he can.

The article was about a father whose daughter was raped in a school bathroom by a skirt wearing boy who had done this before and it was covered up by the schools both times. When the father tried to speak at a school board meeting he was tackled by several large cops and arrested. How dare he be upset!

An elected sheriff answers to his voters. A sheriff elected in a Democrat county will behave differently.

I should have been clearer in my previous post. I live in a heavily Democrat county. The urban areas are run by corrupt, pandering mayors. But we have been blessed by a succession of wonderful county sheriffs.

They run as Democrats, but they behave as Republicans.

I guess "the steal" only effects those at the top of the ticket, not down-ballot office elections.

The gentleman who spoke at church last Sunday said he went to his co Sheriff to encourage him that as the highest elected official in the county not even the President nor the Governor can overrule him.

As they spoke the Sheriff took a phone call. It was Keith Ellison asking if he could count on the Sheriff to enforce Bidens mandates in his county!

The Sheriff thanked Keith for calling and hung up on him without responding!

The entire church cheered!

Fun sermon!

Where in the US? Look up Sheriff Deputies in Wisconsin last year. Mom’s were arrested for not having masks on their kids at play grounds. Neighbors turned in neighbors for lock down violations.

And the Deputies were just “following orders”...

There may be some police who will refuse to resort to these thug tactics but unfortunately the vast majority will do what ever they are told and will bust their neighbors head or worse if told to do so.

I bet friends of the jackbooted thug cops in Australia and New Zealand never thought the person they knew would do it either.

90% of them will be your enemy, just remember that.

Yeah, it’s really odd. The Leftists are stealing offices all over the place. And that includes what happened in my House district in 2020. But for some reason they are leaving the Sheriff’s Office alone.

I’m not making a blanket statement there. It’s only what I observe in my own county.

Many of the good ones are quitting.

The moronic legislature in Maryland passed a law to limit and eliminate qualified immunity for cops. That means they can’t be charged or sued for doing their jobs within the limits of their training and rules.

I only know two Baltimore cops. One quit last week and the other is leaving soon. Several officers under his command have left already.

Yep, choose your sheriff wisely. Sheriff Mack and another sheriff proved they are top dog in their supreme court cases.

Having sat on the other side of the bargaining table with the LEO union, they are all about their salaries and pensions behind closed doors. But out in public they frame their demands as protecting the public.

That being said, there are patriots in the ranks, but I fear that if given the orders from on high most will follow them and even some with great vigor as its will become open season on everyone.

Also keep in mind that cops live for overtime pay. As the ranks thin, the more OT they will get, and as stated earlier, money is their primary motivator.

Sheriff’s are elected.

Police chiefs are appointed.

They run as Democrats, but they behave as Republicans.

This is the solution to the wider problem, also. Democrats have been doing this in conservative districts for decades - time to start paying them back.
