Wife and I saw the Stones at the old dome in Mpls.
It was a hoot...

Who cares what any of these ancient, obsolete fossils think? About anything?

““Brown Sugar” is said to have been inspired by at least one of two Black women Jagger was romantically associated with at the time, one of whom is actually the mother of his first child.”

Claudia Lennear I believe.

That’s okay... The song was beyond burned out 30 years ago...

Bummer. I remember seeing them back in the 80’s - the whole stadium was up dancing to Brown Sugar - man that was a fun time!

And not one damn phone to be seen. GenX is the last generation to really live life. Sad.

She’s one possibility. The other is Marsha Hunt, the mother of Jagger’s first child.

I rather like brown sugar and I will continue to like it. What would the politically correct rat 🐀 bastards prefer we call it? Sugar that’s racist?

I totally agree with you on that since technically, it’s not just the song that gets ‘cancelled’, it’s all the memories associated with that song. How far does one take ‘cancelling’? Throw out all Stones albums that have the song (and other similar ones) on it? Throw out all pictures and memories of Stones concerts where the song was played... and never speak of them again? Sheeeeesh... how about cancelling yourself and all the people who hung out together enjoying the song at parties etc.? Getting rid of the 8 track player that the song dared to be played on.....

This is the problem with cancel culture... there technically is no limit since it’s impossible to draw the boundaries.

Am reminded of the song Brother Louie originally by the bi-racial British band Hot Chocolate (#7 UK), about a white-black relationship: “Danger danger when you taste brown sugar, Louie fell in love overnight”. A 1-hit wonder US band, Stories, took it to #1 here.

The original version contains a couple spoken word bits: “I don’t want no honky in my family...” The song embraces the interracial love affair: Ain’t no difference if you’re black or white, brothers you know what I mean

How about the N word popping up in songs or song titles..
John Lennon: Woman is the N——er of the World

Frank Zappa: He ain’t no n——er no more (You Are What You Is)*

But it pops up in lots of rap songs and that’s OK, it’s a term of endearment.

*—A foolish young man
Of the Negro Persuasion
Devoted his life
To become a caucasian
He stopped eating pork
He stopped eating greens
He traded his dashiki
(”Uhuru!”)
For some Jordache Jeans
He learned to play golf
An’ he got a good score

I think it will get worse, before it gets better.

What’s funny is that in the same year ZZ Top had a song of the same name on their debut album. Much better than the Stones song IMHO, but it’s about heroin.

Speaking of ZZ Top, here’s one they probably haven’t played in a long time:

They all call her her, “Puta”
‘Cause no one really knows her name
She works the cantina
Dancin’ and a-lovin’s her trade
Her mama was Mez’can
And her daddy was the ace of spades.

"Now, Mr. Jagger, there is only one question I want to ask you — Jaggs. … And you better have the answer, man, you better have the answer, since you have besmirched the character of black women. Therefore, here is my question, Jaggs...........Where are all of these black broads, man?........Hey, like, where ARE they, baby? You got any phone numbers for me, baby? …Please send ’em to me. Thank you."

The Rolling Stones need to retire. They are past retirement age.
