Rolling Stones retire classic rock song ‘Brown Sugar’
The Rolling Stones retired one of their most popular rock songs due to lyrics that depict the horrors of slavery.
The Stones have not played the 1971 hit “Brown Sugar” on their current tour and said the blues classic has been removed from their setlist.

old coast slave ship bound for cotton fields
Sold in the market down in New Orleans
Scarred old slaver knows he’s doing alright
Hear him whip the women just around midnight
I rather like brown sugar and I will continue to like it. What would the politically correct rat 🐀 bastards prefer we call it? Sugar that’s racist? These people are idiots. They should rotate on this. 🖕
Bummer. I remember seeing them back in the 80’s - the whole stadium was up dancing to Brown Sugar - man that was a fun time!
“If you don’t vote for me then you ain’t black” - Joe Biden
Why doesn’t that offend them? Sounds to me like white boy Joe is demanding blacks must serve his interests
I never really paid much attention to it. It was used as a disco song in a movie way back in the 1970’s. I mostly just listened to the beat and the music (sounded better in the movie as opposed to the radio version for some reason). I think it was a little faster in the movie.
What’s next, Mick Jagger will announce he’s gay?
Way back when this song was getting a lot of airplay... Tina Turner was touring as a backup singer with The Stones. I'm sure that she was quite aware of the lyrics and what they signified.
Broken clock phenomenon: It IS the most prepostrously racist song I’ve ever heard. In fact, I think the “coolness” of the song was, “we’re so popular and hip, we can invent the most shockingly racist lyrics ever known to mankind, and we’ll STILL get the critics apologizing for us.”
I expect that Leon Russell’s backup singer is ok with the song finally being retired.
““Brown Sugar” is said to have been inspired by at least one of two Black women Jagger was romantically associated with at the time, one of whom is actually the mother of his first child.”
He’s toned it down by changing the words in the past. Seems like a simple solution.
Im surprised they got away with it for this long. I guess the “Cancel” eventually reaches everyone. They “self cancelled”?
Maybe if David Bowie were still around...

Ike & Tina were the opening act for the Stones on tour.
I don’t remember Tina being a backup singer for the Stones.
Still, I’m sure she was well aware of the lyrics.
nobody forces black women to get abortions. They do it to themselves.
hey should rotate on this. 🖕

Cancelled which extreme prejudice.
It is on and will remain on my usb play list.
After profiting from it handsomely for 50 years, Mick hangs it up, but leaves the door open to bring it back when cancel culture abates.
