Dr. Anthony Fauci has lost too much credibility in the eyes of the American people. The fact that he continues in his role, in spite of the unfortunate reality of his lost credibility, is damaging to public health. Talented, accomplished, credentialed and good-willed though he may be, the best thing "America's Doctor" could do for public health right now would be to step aside.

Fauci funds billions of dollars medical research each year and he has used his 40 years in this position to become the J Edgar Hoover of the medical community . Fauci has a few vulnerabilities. One is funding gain of function research and not being candid about it. If that gets traction, he is gone. He has also decided to be the high priest of Covid-19. He can only say the science keeps changing only so much. If something goes off the rails and he is a liability for the resident, he is gone.
