‘His words are garbage’: Gabby Petito’s mother responds to Laundrie lawyer statement

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The mother of Gabby Petito fired back at comments made Tuesday by the Laundrie family’s attorney concerning the death of her daughter.
Attorney Steve Bertolino issued a statement via text, calling Petito’s death a tragedy but doubled down on her fiancé, Brian Laundrie, being only a person of interest in her death.
Gabby Petito homicide: Coroner says exact day of death may never be known “While Brian Laundrie is currently charged with the unauthorized use of a debit card belonging to Gabby, Brian is only considered a person of interest in relation to Gabby Petito’s demise,” Bertolino wrote. “At this time Brian is still missing and when he is located we will address the pending fraud charge against him.”
However, Petito’s mother, Nichole Schmidt, rejected his comment.
“His words are garbage. Keep talking,” she wrote in a text to WFLA’s J.B. Biunno.
The back-and-forth comes after a coroner in Wyoming confirmed Petito’s cause of death to be strangulation and the manner of death to be homicide.

'Report isn't good for the entire Laundrie family'
Dog said the report "isn't good" for the family, and added, "Brian's only chance is to turn himself in." Dog went on to allege "the Laundrie's have stonewalled Gabby's family because they knew what Brian had done and it looks like they've helped him run." The bounty hunter also said the family "aided and abetted a murderer" based on the report "coupled with their behavior."

Gabby was not pregnant.
The coroner let slip a reference to domestic violence. Otherwise, he was very careful not to provide details beyond homicide by strangulation/throttling and that Gabby’s body was out in the elements for 3-4 weeks at the time she was located.

That’s 25 years. He’ll probably get five for running.
His life is over once they find him.

Translated: It is my opinion, that Dog’s remarks are eventually going to inspire some self appointed vigilante to conclude that both Ma and Pa Laundrie are ‘guilty’ of helping a murderer. This same self appointed vigilante is going to decide it’s up to him to administer the punishment for the crime, and he will then come for both Laundries, with intentions of putting them down.

Steve Bertolino is smart enough to earn a law degree and be a member of the FL Bar, he’s smart enough to know damn well for all practical purposes that Person of Interest=suspect.If we parse Bertolino's statement, "...when he is located we will address the pending fraud charge against him," Bertolino is specifically saying he will defend BL for the fraud charge(s). Nothing more.
As for potential homicide, obstructing investigation and evading capture charges, Bertolino does not appear to be ready, willing or able to defend.
