In an interview with The New Yorker, the Beatles member called rival British rock band The Rolling Stones a “blues cover band.”

“I’m not sure I should say it, but they’re a blues cover band, that’s sort of what the Stones are,” McCartney, 79, said. “I think our net was cast a bit wider than theirs.”

“They are rooted in the blues. When they are writing stuff, it has to do with the blues,” McCartney said at the time. “We had a little more influences … There’s a lot of differences and I love the Stones, but I’m with you. The Beatles were better.”

If you read what he actually said it’s no big deal - but look at the headline: “McCartney ‘slams’ The Rolling Stones”.
I’m getting really sick of all the click bait garbage intended to rile people up to get clicks. It’s not helpful.
Who cares what any of these old, obsolete fossils think? About anything? Yawn.
Totally agree. I love the Beatles and they will always be the most influential rock band of all time. But based on longevity AND body of work, the Stones are the greatest rock band of all time.
Now who is the greatest American rock band of all time? I think I know.
Lol. You are so missing the point.
I don’t think so, the Beatles sucked compared to the Stones. IMHO.
Let’s see,
My favorite R&R bands are:
The Stones
The Beatles
Paul Revere and the Raiders
Charlie Musselwhite Blues Band
Cream
The Who
The Yardbirds
Led Zepplin
Fleetwood Mac
I don’t know who else.
My guess is you’ll say Led Zepplin.
Context man. If there were no Beatles the Stones, who I think is the greatest rock band of all time, would never have existed. I’m guessing you are under 60 years old.
Good one.
Winner of best post on the thread.
Hard to beat The Who. I guess my favorite rock song of all time is “Won’t Get Fooled Again”, not for the words which don’t make a whole lot of sense, but for the music itself - dynamite. “Who Are You” is another one. Hard to beat.
I think where the Stones and the Beatles come out ahead is probably their personalities which people connect to. The Who are four great lead musicians who hated each other and not much personality except for a certain craziness like smashing their guitars and stuff - I didn’t like that part.
There’s a lot of differences and I love the Stones, but I’m with you. The Beatles were better.”

Stones ARE still here.
‘... Beatles WERE better.” says Paul.
How do the Beatles compare to your post-Beatle work, Paul?
Which is better?
Yes I’m 59. The Beatles were nothing more than a media created boy band. Their best song was Happiness is a Warm Gun. The rest was really just pop music fluff.
