Gabby Petito's cause of death was strangulation, and the manner of death was homicide, Teton County Coroner Dr. Brent Blue just announced at a news conference.
Officials previously announced her death was a homicide in preliminary findings.
The coroner said that the body had been in the wilderness for three to four weeks before it had been discovered.
Blue explained that it took a month to reach a final autopsy because officials were very "exacting" in their examination of the details.
He noted that they were also waiting for other specialists to arrive to help with this investigation and for toxicology to be returned.
"It was just a matter of making sure we had everything right," he told reporters. The news conference is ongoing.

I disagree. They were in a tiny van that needed to be kept tidy. It was stated early on that he was controlling and Gabby often stayed with her friend when Laundrie fought with her. Friends from their HS days warned her to stay away from him. The body cam footage and 911 call revealed that he had her keys, phone and backpack. We also saw his temper at the Merry Piglets restaurant. The van and credit/debit cards were hers. I think he found a naive girl that couldn't see him for what he really is and he was along for the ride.....
So, when Laundrie is found (alive), his excuse will be the sex got rough, and I don’t know what really happened.

Nope. She was clothed. She was identified by the unique hoodie she was wearing.
Do we know that HE ‘lawyered up’, instead of just his parents?
Domestic violence is probably the most troublesome and difficult for investigators and police to respond to.
I think we saw that when the police in Utah encountered these two. Police did their best under the protocols that they were saddled with.
But often nobody can save a person from their own self.
That’s correct....domestic violence often has two co-dependent people who , like an addiction, cannot imagine life without the arguing and battering and then making up again and again. They protect the ‘relationship habit” more than each other.
You could see that quite easily as she spoke to the officers. ...and by the way calling police or being pulled over, as in this case, also have their part in these relationships. The officers are like narcan is to an addict.
Very interesting comment. Thank You.
I’m sure mummy and daddy are paying for it but some of his statements have specifically represented Brian.
Coroner could easily have put a written statement out on her cause of death. There was a deliberation to him doing so with inteeactive Q&A session.
Well I’m a straight forward type of person and the coroner was playing head games by not calling it as he saw it as it is. Instead he, like those in the press throw out there teasers to keep the public engaged. Which is why I don’t follow this story as reported daily and then some.
The coroner is limited by law as to what he can say - and he was straightforward about that.
He has his duties, and LE have theirs.
“It was just a matter of making sure we had everything right,” he told reporters.
I guess I have to wonder if the same amount of man-hours are used in similar non-national media exposure cases. I don’t begrudge any missing person case getting exposure and attention, just wonder how it compares to the average.
