I’m reminded of Dennis Miller’s debut on Monday Night Football. At one point there was a bad call by the ref, and during the pause in the game, someone yelling “Bullsh*t!” was heard clearly from the TV. There was a short pause, and Miller said “It wasn’t me, folks.”
In the early days of Monday Night Football (Frank Gifford, Howard Cosell, and Don Meredith, I think), toward the end of a game the camera scanned the dwindling crowd to find one lone fan in an upper deck seat, his feat up on the seat in front, empty beer cups (or possibly cans in those days). As the camera pointed at him, he causally look toward it and flipped it the bird. “Dandy Don” said, without missing a beat, “I think he’s saying we’re number one.”
