Dave Chappelle was met with thunderous applause from his fellow celebrities during a Thursday screening of a biographical film chronicling his life - days after sparking controversy by backing Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling in her highly-publicized spat with the transgender community.
'If this is what being canceled is like, I love it,' the 48-year-old funnyman said Thursday night to a star-studded audience at Los Angeles' Hollywood Bowl.
Chappelle had faced furious backlash from the LGBTQ community for making remarks in his latest Netflix special, The Closer, that some have claimed are transphobic.
In the stand-up special - his sixth for the streaming service - Chappelle joked about Rowling's 2019 statement that transgender women were not actually women and were a threat to her identity.
Rowling, 56, subsequently received a slew of hate messages and death threats for her comments on sex and gender after the incident, with the hashtag #RIPJKRowling trending on social media last year.
Rowling was then labeled a 'TERF' by the LGBTQ community - which stands for 'trans-exclusionary radical feminist.'
Chappelle joked that he embraced the label.
'I'm Team TERF. I agree. I agree, man,' Chappelle says in the special, aligning himself with the ousted writer.
'Gender is a fact,' he then remarks.
Chappelle adds: 'Every human being in this room, every human being on Earth, had to pass through the legs of a woman to be on Earth. That is a fact.'
In the contentious special, Chappelle also jokes that women today view transwomen the same way black people might view white women wearing blackface, and remarked that women are entitled to feel anger toward transwomen, since Caitlyn Jenner won Glamour magazine's 2015 Woman of the Year award.
'I'd be mad as sh*t if I was a woman,' Chappelle says during a problematic bit.

To be honest, if you’re a comedian, would you make fun of Muslims? Do you have the guts to do that?
Search YouTube for clayton bigsby. One of the funniest bits ever.

Plenty of Christians make fun of Christians. That’s half the schtick at the Babylon Bee. Catholics have Catholic ridicule, Orthodox had “The Onion Dome.” Jews make fun of Jews.
No way is Islam funny, though. Never.
Jeff Dunham pushed closer than most with "Achmed, the Dead Terrorist". If he named the character "Muhammad, the Dead Terrorist", he might well be "Jeff, the dead comedian".
No kidding. Dunham was funny. One of my sons was really into him for a while.
Exactly!
I want to see him back Trump in 2024.
You never know.
Why do transgenders want to be women, AND eliminate the usage of the word woman?
Personally, I think this Newspeak stuff is being promoted by homosexual men. They like transvestites, because their inner self knows they should be having sex with women.
Homosexuals are also pushing the idea that not wanting to date a transgender “woman” is wrong. They’re trying to get heterosexual men to date fake women, in order to have sex with straight men.
They don’t like women, and are pushing the idea that men are better at being women than actual women.
I looked up the Onion Dome. I think it’s about Orthodox Christianity.
Though the notion that the Antichrist will be a total poofter has lost its luster with many (in light of kissing homosexual toes) it still seems to me to be likely … with a possible twist: in order to unite two large parts of the Christ rejecting world it seems possible that an Islamic Mahdi would need to use an already in place doctrine (abrogation) to proclaim a homosexual friendly (or even mandatory) version of Islam.
To me it seems unlikely that the Christ rejecting West would stream into the Mosques unless they could keep their cherished perverts with them. But what I describe would remove their resistance, especially with the False Prophet claiming to be Christ (per the Islamic “prophesy”, that a “Jesus” will work with their Mahdi) and pointing everyone who will listen towards the beast.
But Christ returns in the clouds leading the perfected saints on horseback and He slays the hosts gathered against Him with a spoken word … and He points to no one else.
Yes, that’s what I said.
