A new generation of wiseguys didn’t properly learn the business, according to former government investigators. Older members complain that the millennials—who grew up in the suburbs instead of city streets—are softer, dumber and not as loyal as mobsters of the past. Plus, they’re always texting.
In another transcribed recording, the soldier lamented that Mr. Russo had no intention of stepping down. “The problem is, that old man, he wanted to be boss his whole life,” he said.

Second year: Smuggling narcotics for fun and profit. Making offers people cannot refuse. When to build your own casino. Advanced racketeering. Establishing your mobster brand.
Bruno from New York believes this certification program will revitalize the mob and usher in a new era for organized crime.

In the Sopranos show several of the characters made similar type comments, such as “these days, in this thing of ours, half the new guys are drug addicts and the other half are sociopaths”.
Of course, no self-awareness that people who think nothing of extortion, arson, racketeering, murder etc as good business practices are all sociopaths, only half of them are drug addicts.
In Goodfella’s they explained it differently. The mob was just a pyramid scheme developed to police the criminals. If you create a beef you need someone to settle the beef to avoid violence. So you paid someone, who paid someone, who paid someone to make peace for people who can’t call the cops.
If you knew a gangster in the early 70s chances are he was a pretty smart guy. If you knew one by the end if the 90s chances are he was a schmuck. Drug addled, spoiled entitled schmuck.
As Gennaro Angiulo used to say: “You think I need tough guys? I need intelligent tough guys!”
The answer is simple - if you are smart, ruthless, and want to make money, it is no longer necessary to commit crimes. You can join one of the legal rackets, and make plenty of money.

Nah, tell Bruno they need to import a boatload of Sicilians, they knew how to do it right from the cradle.
The Dems’ plan promises free 2 year junior college tuition. Maybe the government an cover the 2 year mob training.
About 20 years ago the Detroit mob was broken by FBI. The wiretaps showed that the inbreds were absolute morons.
Just before that I worked for a small company for a very short time. One of the owners was the inbred son of a made guy.
It was amazing their stupidity.
The evilness of our politicians is intensifying.
I "knew" a mobster in the early 70s. Corresponded with him. Nice guy. Married my "aunt." Published a book. Died while showering - fell down, knocked himself out, and the shower curtain blocked the drain, so he drowned.
