Why?

They keep the muskrat population down. And usually not aggressive toward humans. Crocodiles are a whole other matter.

When I was a kid I went night fishing on Florida lakes. We could see dozens of gators (red eyes) with the flashlight.

With the temperature still in the 80’s we would jump in to cool off.

I was watching a show about Key Biscayne south of Miami a while back.
Folks including kids were swimming from a beach and less than 100 feeet away about a 12’ croc came through some mangroves entering the bay.
Swimmers were completely unaware.
And yes there are Croc’s there.
just saying.
