COVID-19 mortality risk correlates inversely with vitamin D3 status, and a mortality rate close to zero could theoretically be achieved at 50 ng/ml 25(OH)D3: Results of a systematic review and meta-analysis
medRxiv ^ | September 25, 2021 | Lorenz Borsche, Bernd Glauner, Julian von Mendel

... Results One population study and seven clinical studies were identified, which reported D3 blood levels pre-infection or on the day of hospital admission. They independently showed a negative Pearson correlation of D3 levels and mortality risk (r(17)=-.4154, p=.0770/r(13)=-.4886, p=.0646). For the combined data, median (IQR) D3 levels were 23.2 ng/ml (17.4 – 26.8), and a significant Pearson correlation was observed (r(32)=-.3989, p=.0194). Regression suggested a theoretical point of zero mortality at approximately 50 ng/ml D3. Conclusions The two datasets provide strong evidence that low D3 is a predictor rather than a side effect of the infection. Despite ongoing vaccinations, we recommend raising serum 25(OH)D levels to above 50 ng/ml to prevent or mitigate new outbreaks due to escape mutations or decreasing antibody activity. ...

I emphasize that I am not medically trained.

Regarding sunlight versus D3, people need to be aware of problems with sunlight.

First, you need to “supplement” your D3 supplement with a healthy diet.

Next, if you live north of the 37° N (equivalent for 37°S), the southern border of Kansas for example, Dr. Ryan Cole, also the "Sunshine" reference below, has indicated that during winter months (October, February), your body won't generate sufficient D3 (my wording) no matter how much sunlight you get. So D3 supplements in winter.

Related to sunlight versus latitude, a rule of thumb is that if your shadow is taller then you are, then you are probably not making sufficient D3. So maybe D3 supplement 365 days a year for a lot of artificial lighting urbanites.

Vitamin D - The Sunshine Vitamin

Also, let's not forget skin cancers as a consequence of sunlight. So also consider D3 supplements if you need to shade yourself in summer.

In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if many sunscreens kill production of D3.

Again, I'm not medically trained.

Corrections, insights welcome.

I think a healthy person can be exposed to sunlight and not be harmed. Research shows that increasing omega 6 fats in your body increases sun damage and you can prevent cancer by not consuming foods high in omega 6 fats such as canada oil, soy oil, and corn oil.

No, don’t be silly. The only thing that will keep you alive is three shots of the vax and to never come within 880 yards of an unvaxxed person. It would also help to pray nightly before icons of Blessed Fauci, Blessed Biden and St Barry the Divider.

I take 5k units (also measured as 125 mcg) per day of D3 and have done so for 15 years. I have had no flu or colds in that time. All my family members have the same habit and same result. All of us did get a minimal dose of the China Flu back in February/March 2020. Those of us who responded to the first cough and temp with a massive dose of D3 were totally over it 8 hours. The rest who relied on the normal daily dose had a bit more symptoms and were sick for a couple of days. Wife got pneumonia which her doctor fixed with asthma meds and antibiotic.

I could have written that same post. Since taking vitamin D3 daily, I rarely get sick and if I do, it doesn’t last very long.

Being deficient in D makes EVERY ILLNESS WORSE. From colds to cancers. Bears repeating. I'm shocked with how so many unhealthy people pooh-pooh taking Vitamin D3 supplements even as they gobble down prescription drugs, eat in an unhealthy way and rarely ever get outdoors to exercise.

It is easier to take 5000 units of D3 daily and adjust if your doctor, if you go to one of those, tells you your level is too high. Ask him for the number. If it is less than 50 then take more. When your doc sends you for a periodic blood test ask him if D is included. If not ask him to include it. Do not tell him it is for WuFlu prophylaxis. Tell him you are worried about rickets.

What do I get from Doctors? “Don’t eat fat or cholesterol”, which is exactly wrong.

Exactly right. I will change my doctor if they ever spout that nonsense to me.

In the absence of dietary cholesterol, your body will simply produce it. So eat your eggs, yolk and all!

Fat is essential as well. Any food product labeled "low fat" is likely to have added sugar - which can be disastrous for your health. So eat your fat and avoid the added sugar!

Not sure what your comment means.

I’m riffing on what the CDC said about ivermectin, but changing it up for vitamin D-3.

Quercetin is a zinc ionophore, just not quite as good of one as HCQ. So it’s very useful.

I think anyone who is taking any form of K supplements should first get tested for Factor V.

I had no idea I had Factor V until I got a clot in my leg and several in my lungs. I am lucky. No after effects other than being condemned to a life wearing pressure sock, blood thinner and monthly INR.

I asked my cardiologist why at my advanced age, after several episodes of AFib, no one had tested me for Factor V until things had gone so far off the track.

His answer: “We don’t ordinarily test people your age for Factor V because everyone your age that has it is already dead.”

So be careful with K2. Especially women who are on the pill and anyone with high blood pressure or other heart/blood issues.

No, I am not in the medical industry....just someone who has done a lot of thinking since my cardiologist made the point that I was supposed to be long ago dead.

Been taking D3 and Zinc since reading article about a doctor who specialized in viruses and advocating the use of D3. Wife and I both got COVID (she had Maderna, me Pfizer) and I definitely had the milder case. Told my doctor that it didn’t even break my top 20 colds/flus.
