Bill Cosby he believes disgraced singer R Kelly was 'railroaded' during his sex trafficking trial, according to his rep.
The comedian blamed racism for Kelly's conviction on several counts on Monday, and said any appeal the singer made would likely be successful.
In an interview with the New York Post, Cosby's spokesman Andrew Wyatt said the 84-year-old felt Kelly 'got railroaded' and 'wasn't going to catch a break' in his month-long trial.
'The deck was stacked against Robert,' Wyatt told the paper, using Kelly's first name.
The Cosby rep also criticised lawyer Gloria Allred who represented victims in both Kelly and Cosby's cases.
'[Cosby] said that Gloria Allred did the same thing [with Kelly] that she did with him,' Wyatt told TMZ.
'You parade women out and you stir up the public sentiment to go against him and that's what they did to R Kelly.'
Wyatt went on to claim that Kelly's case was an example of 'an assault on black men' in America today.
'This is an assault on successful black men who are doing great things,' he said.
'I see R Kelly having a strong case on appeal, and I think when he gets to the appellate court and when he gets to the highest court in the land, I think we'll see a conviction overturned.'
The rep claimed to the Post that Kelly's constitutional rights had been 'grossly abused,' pointing to the influence a documentary on allegations against the singer-songwriter appeared to have played in getting the case to court.
'I don't know anywhere but in this country, in the United States, that a documentary can bring someone to court,' Wyatt said.
