Saturday schadenfreude: Prog thinks she can change nature: Suddenly (and hilariously) discovers that she can’t

Progressives are by their very nature contemptuous of the natural order of things. Everything can be improved by their superior intellects. By virtue of the purity of their motives and the advanced understanding we have these days, they can impose policies that violate human nature, and, they think, prevail. The Marxists are explicit in their promise that communism will create a “new man” (now updated to read “new person”). Self-interest would no longer operate in the communist utopia that would follow the supposedly transitory period of “dictatorship of the proletariat.” “From each according to his abilities, to each according to his needs.” Never mind who chose to lay about and who chose to work hard….

Of course, human nature being immutable, the “vanguard” in charge of the “dictatorship of the proletariat” in every single Communist country has always held onto its own power and privileges and led societies where the gap between the lives of the elite and the masses dwarfed that of any capitalist system. Trying to change human nature – or any other aspect of the natural order (see, for example Lysenkoism) – inevitably produces outcomes that are at best hilarious, and at worst, catastrophic.

One day the dog will get tired of broccoli and eat her/him/it.

Dogs are omnivores, and can digest plants. This doesn’t mean that they can stay healthy on an exclusively vegan diet.

Dog has his paws full just trying to figure out what kind of creature his owner is.

There was a story a few years ago about a guy who made his cat vegan. The cat went blind.

Did you watch the video? The dog is offered a plate of broccoli and a plate of meat based dog food. The dog ignores the broccoli and wolfs down the meat. Twice. It could be a set up, or a friend might have been taping the demonstration of canine vegetarianism and couldn’t resist the temptation to post it.

I believe dogs are carnivores. They do better on more than just meat, but they can naturally live on it. All of their teeth are cutting teeth, even the molars.

I might get my dog to eat broccoli if I slathered it with bacon grease.

Back when we still had the fair in town, we saw a starving Doberman roaming the grounds, snatching up whatever food scraps he could find and rummaging in trash cans.

He “belonged” to some hippie carnies and they said he was a “vegetarian” and very happy.

When he took off for another round of scavenging, we bought him cheeseburgers and hot dogs and he inhaled them.

We kept some of the bits and abandoned our fair plans and headed out for the exit gate, dog following behind.

We were *thisclose* to saving him when the male hippie called the dog and the poor loyal thing obeyed.

The state cop stationed at the gate, watching all this was visibly disappointed and looked as heartbroken as we were.

Dirty, filthy, stinking, animal torturing hippies.

It’s been almost 27 years and I still think of that dog.

They are not obligate carnivores like cats are.

In the wild, wolves and other canids will happily eat the nearly digested gut contents of their meaty prey because it adds micronutrients that benefit from.

But they are built for meat.

Tearing canines and slashing molars built for ripping off chunks of flesh rather than flat surfaced teeth like ruminants have, and very short, fast digestive tracts that allow them to eat “iffy” finds.

They can do eat veggies if offered but their digestive systems are not very good at handling them.

“Oh no! The wolves have eaten the wheat crop!” said no one, ever.

Is this person for real? Is this satire? Why would they post this video?

This has to be satire.

No one can be that stupid, to stream it live unless they knew it would be a bust.

At least I hope so.

We give frozen carrots to our puppies when they are teething, and they happily munch on them.

I note that they do not have crushing molars, as humans and other true omnivores, I believe, do. This would suggest that plants are a significant part of our natural diet, and not theirs. As I said, I do believe that dogs do better with some non-meat in their diets, too, as you mention with the gut ingestion.

My only knowledge of biology is from schooling outside of the field, and is surely “outdated”! ;)

“ I might get my dog to eat broccoli if I slathered it with bacon grease.”

Mine would just lick off the grease and leave the shiny grease-free broc in the dish.

Coyotes do sometimes raid watermelon patches. Our doggies enjoy blueberries and slices of apple as a treat. Most inexpensive commercial dog food is mostly soy and corn products with a little bit of meat added.
