BERLIN (AP) — Officials in Germany are investigating why a huge wind turbine collapsed just hours before it was due to be officially inaugurated.
The turbine, whose rotor blades reach a height of 239 meters (784 feet), toppled over late Wednesday in a forest near the western town of Haltern.
German news agency dpa reported Thursday that police were not currently suspecting sabotage.

The wind turbine was completely destroyed by the collapse, as a spokesman for RAG MI announced. All that remained was a 40-meter-high stump made of concrete parts. The site of the collapse was cordoned off over a large area. The RAG assumes that the debris does not pose a threat to the environment.
The spokesman continued that the wind turbine had run perfectly until it collapsed. The twin system, which is around 450 meters away, was put out of operation for safety reasons immediately after the collapse became known. "It will not be put back into operation until the cause of the accident has been clarified." According to the municipal utilities, the wind turbine was connected to the grid when it collapsed. According to the Haltern fire brigade, it was not very windy.
NOOOOOOBODY tightened the bolts! LOL

I believe Ricardo Montalban actually made ad libbed it on the spot. I recall hearing him talk about it from some bizaar show years ago. Or maybe I dreamed it up...
“German news agency dpa reported Thursday that police were not currently suspecting sabotage.”
Yeah. We can trust the great Polizei whose first incident with everything is “there is no way this is related to the invasion of violent Islamic terrorists.”
“It’s ridiculous to have a wind turbine that tall in the first place.”

And why put it in a forest? The trees will block the wind, it seems to me.
Coming soon to a dying society near you.
How many trees were removed for this project just so they could trash up the area?
Oops.
Someone made a boo boo.
Do I detect the dialect of my family region of Lüchow-Dannenberg district, in Lower Saxony Germany? LOL
The timing is very suspect. It had been operating for 6 months, and collapses just hours before a bit ceremony to ‘celebrate’ it. Also interesting in how it collapsed...right in the middle. Assuming not sabotage, perhaps the interior wasn’t vented properly to the outside and a pressure differential built up (maybe just due to atmospheric changes) and the windmill exploded (or imploded), causing the structure to buckle (same way tornadors explode houses). One or two psi may not sound like much, but when you have that many si’s, it is a boatload of force.
I also wonder about the claimed 5 million Euro price tag. Sorry, don’t buy it...they’re lying. Something that size (nearly as tall as the Umpire State Building) will be 10 times that cost. But the lower claimed cost will work in making people think it’s economical.
Und es macht eine grosse zusammengestochen mit der grund!
Hope no one was hurt

If a windmill falls in the forest, does it make a sound?...
A trick question!
...is a philosophical thought experiment that raises questions regarding observation and perception.
