hese experiments are designed to give agencies a better idea of how humans would interact and cope during a long space journey.

The volunteer research subjects start their virtual journey to Phobos on October 1, in a ground-based habitat at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas.

Their home for the 45 days will be a small habitat called the Human Exploration Research Analog, or HERA - with collected data informing the design of future missions to the Red Planet, expected to happen in the 2030s.

HERA is a two-story, four-port cylindrical habitat unit with a total of 636 sq. ft of living space, designed to replicate the living space on a long duration spaceship.

“3 chicks and 1 guy?...”

Better than two girls and one cup.

Everyone keeps mentioning the 1 guy, 3 women thing in a different context than what I thought of. lol 3 women, each of which may have at least a few days of PMS, possibly not at the same time. That could be interesting. And, being a woman, I know just how awful I can be. Hoping that won’t be the case but.....

> The Navy probably has data on this subject. /s
> Leave it to the government to waste time and money. Then again their data concerns roughly six months at a time-not 45 days.. can’t extrapolate that data…

Surely the navy has ran 6 month simulations prior to deploying women on subs...

and since women are already allegedly deployed on US subs by now, surely we the public have been made aware of the results somewhere...

(looked, but could not easily find, results for subs...)

NASA has created the world’s shortest walk of shame. Has the Guinness book of records been notified yet?

You could rent my house for this experiment. It’s that small.

Also three women and one man in a small, closed space. You don’t have to go into space for this kind of heaven on earth.

I missed that. I was exclusively zoning in on the long term view lol.

Maybe NASA could ask for a copy of notes from the Biosphere.

japanese recommended minimum per person is 25 m**2 or 269 ft**2.

https://resources.realestate.co.jp/living/how-much-living-space-do-you-need-to-be-happy-japan-survey-results/

in real life, however, the average is 22.3 m**2 (13.5 tatami).

still, the recommended minimum would limit the NASA capsule to 636/268 = 2.3 people. these guys are probably not brought up in japan, so...

i am not sure that 636/4 = 159 ft**2 per person is realistic for mars journeys / exploration. perhaps NASA is still thinking ULA as being the primary transport vehicle to/from Mars...
